Homemade Pesto Sauce Recipe

July 30, 2014

This year my daughter and her friend planted basil on Earth Day back in April.  They planted the basil from seeds and and it grew into large basil plants.  To use it up I decided to make Pesto Sauce.

Below is the basil planted from seeds and it grew so big.

I picked 2 cups of fresh basil leaves to make the pesto sauce.

I made tortellini pasta with the Pesto Sauce.  You can use any kind of pasta you like!

This pesto sauce tastes so amazing and I made it for my family two times already!

Homemade Pesto Sauce Recipe

Makes 1 cup

INGREDIENTS:

2 cups fresh basil leaves, packed
1/2 cup grated Parmesan or Romano cheese
1/2 cup olive oil
3 medium garlic cloves, minced
salt & pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS:

Combine all the ingredients in a food processor or blender and pulse a few times.  Stop and scrap down the sides with a plastic spatula.  Done.

Serve over cooked pasta.

  2. Wow, that easy, I had no idea Julie. I have just purchased my first ever blender this week because I wanted to make smoothies and soups. I have basil growing in a pot outside that I grew from seeds too. I am delighted to add your recipe to my so far small recipe list for my new blender. Thanks for sharing x

  13. Good Morning Julie, I love pesto and like your daughter, I grow a lot of basil to use in my cooking and to make pesto. Basil is an amazing plant, given the right conditions it just grows and grows. Some years the plants yield a lot of basil and other years not so much..... it is all down to our English weather.
Have a lovely weekend.....can you believe it is 1st August.... where did July go?
    Best wishes
