Metropolitan Museum of Art - July 2022

September 26, 2022

We made a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art back in July.  I'd love to share with you our visit to the museum.

My daughter knows the Metropolitan Museum of Art well.  She has visited this museum on and off for many years with her friends.  It was great because she knew the ins and outs of how to get into the museum and gave us a tour of her favorite spots.

We visited some Greek and Roman, statues.

We saw the ancient Egyptian Temple of Dendur.

I love this whispering statue in the American West Wing of the Met.

We saw the past exhibition of the costume institute In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.  Below you will see some photos I took of fashion in the United States.

Another fashion exhibit we visited was In America: An Anthology of Fashion.  There was a line to get into this exhibit but the line moved fast.  I took more photos of some of the fashion I thought looked interesting.  I hope you enjoy looking at some of the fashion dating back from the 1800s.

This is a coat that George Washington once wore.

We had a great time and I look forward to visiting the museum again sometime in the future.  I hope to see some of the artwork and famous paintings on my next visit to the museum.

Have you ever visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art?

Friday Favorites - Welcome Fall

September 23, 2022

Happy Friday and Fall!

I haven't done a Friday Favorites in a while and I thought with fall here, now is the perfect time to do one.

I love decorating my mantel for fall.  I've crocheted a lot of pumpkins and added faux leaves to my mantel.  You can see above the mantel is a painting of a fall scene in the woods that I painted many years ago.

I love taking long walks in the fall to see the leaves changing colors on the trees.

We all had a great time visiting my daughter last year at her college house.  They decorated the porch and made a pumpkin patch.  I love this photo of our dog Bosco.

I love the cooler temperature and wearing sweaters in the fall.  I crocheted this sweater last year and it's perfect to wear for fall and winter.

I love making soup in the fall and winter months.  You might enjoy these four recipes to make for fall.

I enjoy baking bread and muffins during the fall and winter.  Last year I made low carb pumpkin muffins that are delicious tasting.  I'm looking forward to making these again.

A few years ago I made slow cooker lasagna that was easy to make.  I used uncooked lasagna noodles and in a few hours, we had a delicious meal ready to eat for dinner.  I look forward to making this slow cooker dish again.

Fall is the perfect time of year to curl up and read a good book.

I love decorating my planter on my front stoop with cute decorations for fall and Halloween.

Decorating my stoop with pumpkins and mums is a favorite of mine.  I am hoping to visit a farm stand for everything I need to decorate for fall.

I love using the crockpot during the fall and winter months.  I shared last winter this crockpot beef short ribs recipe.  I was so happy to learn that Joanne from Slices of Life made the short ribs for her family.  She said her boys gobbled up the ribs and that the rib recipe is quick and easy to make, and tender tasting.  Thank you Joanne for making this crock pot recipe.

Have a happy Friday and a happy fall!  🍂

Air Fryer Salmon

September 19, 2022

Hey guys, I know I'm late to the game with owning an air fryer.  When my daughter asked for an air fryer we saw one on sale at Costco.  We have a friend who moved and asked us if we would like hers and we jumped at the chance and said yes.

I like this air fryer and it cooked the salmon within minutes.  I searched Pinterest for an easy recipe and you'll see below the details on how to make it.

Air Fryer - Gormia - Model #GAF575

I defrosted 2 salmon filets for the recipe.

I made a marinade for the salmon and smoothed it on top of the salmon.

The air fryer salmon was cooked within minutes.

The salmon all cooked and plated.  I like using the air fryer and the marinade made the salmon delicious tasting.

WHAT YOU NEED:

AIR FRYER SALMON
The Recipe and Details can be found at Well Plated

PREP: 10 minutes
COOK:  8 minutes
TOTAL:  18 minutes
SERVINGS:  2 servings

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 salmon fillets
  • pinch kosher salt
  • pinch black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar or honey
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • pinch ground ginger
DIRECTIONS:

  1. With paper towels, pat the salmon dry.  Sprinkle lightly on both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. For easy cleanup, line the air fryer basket with aluminum foil.  Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F according to the manufacturer's instructions (for my air fryer, that is 3 minutes)
  3. In a small bowl or larger liquid measuring cup, mix together the brown sugar, Dijon, oil, soy sauce, garlic powder, and ginger (if using).  Spoon all over the top of the salmon.
  4. Slide-out the air fryer basket and set it on a heatproof surface.  Place the fillets in the basket so that they are not touching.
  5. Cook the salmon in the air fryer for 6 to 11 minutes, depending upon their thickness and your model (fillets around 1 inch will need 8 to 9 minutes).  Do not overcook or the salmon will be dry.  Salmon is done when it registers 145 degrees F on an instant-read thermometer (I remove mine a few degrees early, let it rest, then the carryover cooking finishes the job).  Check it a few times towards the end to make sure it doesn't overcook.
  6. Transfer to a serving plate.  Enjoy hot, with a sprinkle of additional salt and pepper if desired.
NOTE:  I left the out the ground ginger because I didn't have any on hand.

Subscribing to the Blogs I Like to Read

September 12, 2022

Hey friends, I just wanted to write this blog post regarding following and subscribing to the blogs I like to read.

BLOGLOVIN

I have been following most of the blogs I read for years on Bloglovin.  I always enjoyed reading all the blogs I like this way for a long time.  Well, for months now Bloglovin has been down.  I receive emails from them and I will be able to see the blogs I follow but the website has been down on and off for months now.  Has anyone else noticed this problem with Bloglovin?  I've noticed Andrea also addressed having this problem with Bloglovin.

I've decided that for any blogs I used to follow by Bloglovin, I will now subscribe to those blogs by email.

If you would like to follow and read my blog, you can subscribe to mine by email.  You just have to sign up with this form on the lower right side of my blog.

I want to thank everyone who visits and reads my blog daily.  How do you follow the blogs you like to read?

Life Lately - Summer Wrap Up

September 6, 2022

Hey friends, I hope you had a nice summer.  I've been enjoying this last bit of summer and I can't believe it's already September.

Here are some things I enjoyed this summer.

This summer I went to two family weddings in June and July.

We have a beach that is only 20 minutes away from our house.  We've been to the beach a lot this summer and I was happy to be able to swim in the warm water.

We've had a lot of BBQ's this summer and we even made grilled corn on cob.  I added butter, salt & pepper, and garlic powder to the ears of corn and then wrapped them in tin foil.  My husband grilled them and they tasted so good.

I've enjoyed sitting in my yard reading some books this summer.

I grew cherry tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, cucumbers, eggplants, and basil this summer.

I made pesto sauce from the basil I grew for pesto pasta.

I'm sad because Bosco has slowed down a lot and he has high blood pressure and kidney issues.  I now give him medications twice a day.  He is such a good sport and doesn't mind the medicine because I wrap up the pills in turkey.  We also bought a ramp for the back stoop stairs so he can go out in the yard without falling off the stairs. He has trouble with his back legs.  In October Bosco will be 15 years old.

While my daughter was in college she worked at a local Irish bar as a server and bartender.  She enjoys making my husband and I occasional drinks.  My favorite is the Aperol Spritz drinks she makes us.  Below she made us drinks using round ice cubes.

My daughter has also been making duck espresso ice cubes.  The ducks look adorable in the matcha drinks she makes.

My daughter has gone to a few Harry Styles concerts at Madison Square Garden.  I'm excited to go with her to see him perform on September 14th.

We've enjoyed going out for drinks and dinner with friends and family in the city.  We met up with friends at the restaurant Monomono for happy hour with delicious tasting Korean fried chicken.  I had an espresso martini which I enjoyed but sorry I forgot to take a photo of the drink.

I've been going on a lot of walks in my neighborhood.  I love spotting sunflowers on my walks by myself or with my husband.

What have you been doing this summer?
