Yesterday I went to my Crochet group meeting and one of the ladies in the group named Rachel made for me a crocheted baby hat and a baby poncho to go with the crocheted baby blanket I had made. I did not know how to make the baby hat or poncho so she said that she would make it for me so that I could have a set to sell at our church's annual Christmas Fair. When I saw how cute the set was I asked her if she would write out the pattern directions for me and she did. Then to my surprise she said that she would teach me to make the baby hat. I sat and crocheted the hat and it took me about a half hour to make. I think that it came out pretty good for the first time and she said that next week she will teach me to make the poncho and a little flower to attach to the hat. This is why I love going to my crochet meetings because we all work together and help each other out and keep each other motivated.
Thanks everyone and enjoy.

For the past two weeks I have been crocheting this granny square blanket for a friend of mine. She is collecting baby blankets for a charity that she is running for women who need handmade baby blankets. I decided to participate and this is the blanket I made for her charity. I was happy to help out because I know it is for a good cause.
Yesterday we decided to meet some friends in New York City for a late lunch. We went to the Meatpacking District to a restaurant called Spice Market. Their menu is inspired by the street food Jean-Georges Vongerichten enjoyed while traveling in Asia. We had Vietnamese Spring Roll, Crispy Pork Dumplings with Chili and Lime, Cod with Malaysian Chile Sauce and Thai Basil, Onion and Chili Crusted Short Ribs with Egg Noodles and Pea Shoots, and a Salmon Salad. For dessert we shared a Strawberry Rhubarb Crumble. I had Vietnamese coffee.

After lunch I went into one of my favorite stores called Anthropologie and looked around. Here are some pictures of some of the things that I found interesting in the store.
I hope you all like my pictures of NYC and I'm looking forward to the Spring.
Thanks everyone and enjoy.

A week ago I started crocheting for the first time a granny rectangle. I got the idea from Ali Campbell @CrochetAli from Twitter. Ali is a crochet teacher and designer from the UK and she posts on her blog www.macscrochet.blogspot.com everyday what her students are working on and she was teaching them to make crocheted rectangles. Well I saw a pattern on www.favecrafts.com to make a crocheted rectangle pillow, but I thought that a scarf would be cute for me to use, so I am going to use it for our annual Christmas Fair that we have at our church.
Here is a picture of the finished crocheted rectangle scarf I made!
Thanks everyone and enjoy.

I went to Brooklyn Craft Camp on Saturday March 16, 2013, and it was hosted by Brett Bara who is the host of Knit and Crochet Now TV show and author of the book Sewing in a Straight Line. It was a fun day of crafting and meeting new people. The morning started off with Brett Bara introducing herself and telling us what the day was going be like and then we all had coffee and donuts from a local Greenpoint bakery called Peter Pan and the coffee was from Cafe Grumpy's featured on the HBO show called Girls.
Here is a list of what I made, a crepe paper flower taught by Kayte Terry author of the book Paper Made, I made a crocheted headband taught by Cal Patch a crochet designer, the embroidery class was taught by Jessica Marquez author of the book Stitched Gifts, and the last class of the day was knitting a cowl by Kate Clifford a knitting teacher at Argyle Yarn Shop and founder of an after-school knitting program in Harlem.
We all had a gourmet lunch which consisted of Roasted pork loin sandwich with rosemary-honey mustard, spicy mayo and arugula on brioche, Spring bean soup with chili sauce, basil oil and baby greens, Quinoa salad with beets two ways, baby frisee and lemon-muscat vinaigrette, and Candied grapefruit almond shortbread with sea salt. While we were eating lunch we had guest speaker Jay McCarroll who was winner of Project Runway Season 1 talk to us about his background and how he became interested in fashion and being creative.
Throughout the day there was DJ Darren Fried who played nice background music for us and who is also Brett's boyfriend.
When the event was over they had a cocktail hour for everyone and snacks. They also had a Photo Booth, Quick Craft Bar and a DIY Nail Art Bar.
It was a fun day and I enjoyed crafting, learning some new crafts, and meeting new people.

I hope that everyone enjoys this Sunday because it is St. Patrick's Day and I thought that I would share with you this recipe in case you don't like cabbage. The recipe is from Ina Garten from the FoodNetwork. This recipe is so good and I use it as a side dish with many of our meals. Please give it a try!

At my crochet group today we had show and tell as soon as everyone arrived. One of the members showed us a lot of scarves that she is working on and she has seven projects that she is working on at the same time. There were four more members each working on knitted scarves.
I am working still on a crocheted baby sweater that needs the sleeves crocheted on and the rest needs to be sewn up and the buttons put on. I finished crocheting 2 Infinity scarves and the other project is a rectangle granny scarf.
The rectangles will then all be assembled so that when they are all done it will look like a scarf. I just want to say a special thank you to Ali Campbell from @Crochet Ali on Twitter for the idea. I got the idea from one of her classes she was teaching and also from Fave Crafts because last week they had a pattern shown to make a rectangle pillow made by Henriette Pieket. Well I think that these rectangles are really cute and they can be made into so many different things such as pillows, scarves and even a blanket. Thank you Ali for inspiring me to make something different.

The nice part about going to crochet group today was one of the members taught myself and another member how to make this type of knitting stitch. I will be using this to make other scarves in the future.

The day is going to be a fun day and I will meet a lot of people in the craft world. There will be all kinds of classes. I will be taking these classes, crepe paper flowers, knit a chunky cowl, twisted crochet headband, and an embroidery class.
When you arrive there will be coffee and donuts for everyone, then I will take 2 classes, a gourmet lunch, 2 more classes, and then in the evening there will be a cocktail hour sponsored by West Elm. They are also going to have a DIY nail art bar, a quick Craft-a-Day station with Sara Goldschadt, and a photo booth sponsored by Jimmy Beans Wool, and a Purl Pom Pom Bar.
The best part about this craft camp is that all of the supplies for the day are included in the package and at the end of the day they will have Giveaways, Goodie Bags and a Cocktail hour.

In this blog post it is going to be about a local Irish pub and will not be crochet or knit related. Last night I went out to dinner with my husband to a pub called the Wicked Monk. The pub has been in our neighborhood for a long time and they moved to a new location close to our house. Inside all the windows came from a church in Ireland that were made of stained glass and there is a stone wall that was made only by Irish men and there are so many TVs surrounding the whole pub. Last night it was a really nasty rainy evening and I thought that there would be not that many people inside, well I was wrong. Inside there were a lot of people and it had a really nice atmosphere. The waitress that waited on us was so nice and she is from Ireland.
My husband and I had an appetizer that we picked out that was kind of different, it was called Reuben Spring Rolls. It was so good, that it was like a Reuben sandwich but made into a spring roll. I had Coors Light and my husband had Blue Moon beer. For the entree I had Lamb Shepherd's Pie with french fries and my husband had a Pork Chop with mashed sweet potato and applesauce. When it was dessert time my husband and I were so stuffed so we just had a single espresso each. The chef came out to talk to us and he was nice too, so I guess this place has new customers. I'm sorry I did not take pictures last night but I just wanted to relax and enjoy myself because I am usually at home cooking.
The one thing that I am looking forward to is St. Patrick's Day. They are going to have a big party and it seems like it will be a lot of fun. I am part Irish and I love St. Patrick's Day and I will be making corned beef, cabbage and potatoes for my family. I hope you enjoyed this because St. Patrick's Day is almost here.

Today I went to my Crochet Group at my church. We were all lucky today because we were all given a big supply of new yarn to work with to make knitting and crochet projects. We are allowed to make whatever we want for the year because our group gives knit & crochet items to hospitals, the poor or homeless and we also have every year a Christmas fair. There are 17 people in our group and not everyone shows up each week because some people just work from home. Last week I was the only one who came, but we usually all meet in the morning every Tuesday and then go out to lunch afterwards. It is fun and we all keep each other inspired. Last week I made a crocheted Infinity Scarf in just 2 sittings. It was fun, quick and easy to make. I have posted the design that I made up myself.

This is a picture of the yarn I got to make some projects.
We do not use fancy yarn for this type of crochet group that I belong to, but the yarn is good for baby blankets and baby sets, scarves, hats, hand warmers or cell phone covers.
I belong to another knitting group that I met from Ravelry. In this group we all use better yarn and make whatever we want for ourselves or for other people. It is a fun group and over the weekend one of the ladies in the group decided to have everyone over for a knitting party. We each brought something to eat and there were all different types of picky food. There was a group of 10 of us and I managed to finish crocheting an Infinity Scarf! It made me happy that I was able to sit and crochet and have a good time. I have a lot of yarn friends. Yay for yarn!
