This is another scarf that I finished working on and I made for our annual Christmas Fair that takes place in the fall. It will be added to the crocheted and knit items that I have made so far this year. I have managed to fill a whole shopping bag with different items that I have made. I'll have to start on another shopping bag soon!
The scarf is crocheted length wise 60 inches and is 6 inches wide. I used the half double crochet and then I decided to add blue yarn, I double crocheted the border at each end of the scarf. I then added a flower to give the scarf some color. The inside of the flowers have the same multi color yarn as the scarf. I then sewed that to each of the inside flowers and attached them to the scarf. This how the scarf came out when I finished everything. The flowers remind me of pansies.
You can see how I added the multi colored blue yarn to the inside of the flower with the yarn from the scarf. I hope I have inspired someone to crochet a scarf like this with flowers!

I hope everyone had a great long weekend! Now that summer is approaching, how would you like to have a glass of refreshing Iced White Tea? Well it is such a healthy tea to drink and it is so easy to make. I want to share it with you how I make this at home.
First fill a large pot with water and boil.
This is what the pearls look like.
For a large pot I usually use 6 pearls and add this into a tea infuser and then put this into a pot of boiling water and let steep for 5 minutes.
Thanks everyone and enjoy.

First fill a large pot with water and boil.
This is the container of the White Tea that I use. It is Teavana and I use the Silver Yin Zhen Pearls White Tea. I bought this in the Teavana store in New Jersey at the Garden State Plaza Mall.

For a large pot I usually use 6 pearls and add this into a tea infuser and then put this into a pot of boiling water and let steep for 5 minutes.
Take the tea infuser out of the water after 5 minutes of steeping and let the pot of tea cool off.
This is what the tea leaves look like when you take the infuser out of the water after 5 minutes.
When the pot of white tea cools off you can pour it into a large pitcher and there you have your Iced White Tea! It's so cool and refreshing! If you do not like your tea iced then you can drink it hot!
I added to the glass of iced tea, mint leaves that are growing in my container garden in my yard!
Why not try this tea? I know you are going to love it and it's healthy too. It tastes so good that you don't even need sugar in it. Let me know how it you like it!

Summer is almost here and everyone will be having BBQ's, so here is a different idea for a Classic Hamburger. Beets on a Burger with Lettuce. It's something different and fun and tastes so good. You have to give this a try. For the beets I cheated and used them from the jar, but you could roast your own beets if you like. For the lettuce you may use whatever lettuce that your family likes. Enjoy!
Wishing everyone a HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!

This is a really fun and different recipe that I want to share with you this week. I found it in the All You magazine and I made it for dinner. This is a dish that tastes great with a salad on the side. Why not give this one a try. Please remember to let the tart stand for 10 to 15 minutes before serving. Here is what my tart looked like.
Thanks everyone and enjoy.

BROCCOLI-SWEET ONION-CHEESE TART
Yield: Serves 6
Prep: 20 minutes
Cook: 30 - 35 minutes
Ingredients
4 slices bacon
1/2 medium onion, sliced
1 small clove garlic, minced
2 1/2 cups cheese cracker crumbs ( Such as Cheez-It, about 1/2 of a 13.7-oz. box) (If you do not want to use Cheez-It for the crust you can use a pie crust instead)
4 Tbsp. unsalted butter, melted
3/4 cup shredded Monterey Jack
3/4 cup shredded sharp Cheddar
2 cups small broccoli florets
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp. Dijon mustard
1 tsp. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. fresh chopped thyme
Preparation
Cook bacon in a skillet over medium-high heat until crisp, drain on paper towels. Reserve 2 Tbsp. fat in skillet; discard remaining fat. Crumble bacon. Sauté onion in skillet over medium heat for 5 minutes. Add garlic; sauté until onion is tender, about 5 minutes more. Remove from heat.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line a baking sheet with foil. Gently mix cracker crumbs, butter and 1/2 cup hot water. Mist a 9-inch tart pan with cooking spray; place on baking sheet. Press crumb mixture into the pan.
Sprinkle bacon over crust. Combine cheeses; spread 1/2 cup over bacon. Spread onion mixture and broccoli on top. Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Whisk milk, mustard, flour and thyme; pour on top.
Bake until tart is golden, 30 to 35 minutes. Let stand for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
I am always trying to find different recipes to make for my family and this recipe has a different kind of crust. The crust is made with Cheez-Its, for a real cheese taste. If you try out this recipe let me know if you and your family liked it.
Thanks everyone and enjoy.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend and here we are at the start of a new week. Yesterday I went into New York City to shop with my daughter. It was a cold and rainy day here in the city but we both had fun. This is where we started.
The first stop was lunch at Pret A Manger and it was so good. We both had egg salad sandwiches, soup, bread, and drinks.
Inside the store was a display of a wedding theme. They made a cute wedding cake and presents made out of yarn. If you are in NYC do not miss this window display, it is a must see!
Here is a picture of all the colorful yarn that I bought. When my daughter saw all the yarn she said that she loved the yarn and all the pretty colors. She also surprised me with wanting to take knitting lessons over the summer there. Now I might have a partner to knit with!
I purchased a lot of kitchen cotton both from the Martha Stewart line and the Lion Brand Kitchen Cotton. The colors are amazing and so bright and cheery.
I am making a lot of dishcloths because Jill from Being Spiffy is hosting the 52 Weeks of Dishcloths. We are already on to week 8 and now I have to get busy and start working on this weeks dishcloth!
Come and join the fun because dishcloths make great gifts. Don't forget end of the school year is approaching and you could make one to give to the teachers in a gift basket with cute dishwashing soap and hand cream.
I love desserts and in my family we are trying to eat healthy. Instead of eating ice cream or cake after a meal I usually make a berry salad instead. In the berry salad I add fresh cut up strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries. It tastes so good and it's healthy for you. I like to serve this with whipped cream and we just love it. This is also a great dessert now that summer is approaching and it's easy to make! You could also serve this with pound cake. How about giving healthy fresh berries a try instead for dessert?
HEALTHY FRESH BERRY SALAD
P.S. With Memorial Day coming up you could make this Healthy Fresh Berry Salad and bring it to a party and everyone will love it!
Back in April I knitted this scarf for my daughter and I would like to share with you this simple knit pattern that I have designed. I knitted this scarf with very large knitting needles and it makes the stitches come out large. The yarn is also light and very soft because baby yarn is used and it will make the perfect scarf to wear for Spring or Summer.
Julie
SIMPLE KNITTED SCARF PATTERN
Yarn: 1 skein Lion Brand Yarn, Baby's First - Color: Sea Sprite
Needles: US 17 - 12.75mm and US 35 - 19.0mm
Notion: Tapestry Needle
1. Make a slip knot near the end of the yarn.
2. Cast on 15 stitches using the size US 17 knitting needle and knit 4 rows.
3. For the rest of the scarf use the size US 35 knitting needle, and knit each row until you reach near the end of the yarn. *Make sure you leave yourself enough yarn to knit 4 more rows with the smaller knitting needle.
4. Switch to the size US 17 knitting needle and knit 4 rows.
5. Cast off and weave in the ends of both sides of the scarf.
Please Note: For the color choice in the baby yarn you could use a dark color such as navy blue, black or brown for fall and wither.
Please try out this simple pattern and have fun with it!
It's Week 7 of the 52 Weeks of Dishcloths. This weeks pattern was so much fun and easy to crochet. I made this dishcloth yesterday in one sitting! Here are some pictures of this vibrant dishcloth.
For the cotton yarn I used Lily Sugar 'n Cream and the color is Yellow. I chose this color because it is vibrant like the sun.
For details and pattern go to Being Spiffy or you can also go to the I'm Spiffy button found on my sidebar. I hope you join in on this link party and have fun crocheting this dishcloth!

I can't believe it's already Week 6 of the 52 Weeks of Dishcloths. This weeks pattern is easy to knit and it just involves increase and decrease. This pattern is fun to knit so I hope you join in on this link party. Here are some photos I took of my progress on knitting the dishcloth.
For the details and the pattern go to Being Spiffy who was passed down this pattern by her mom and grandmother. To look for the details you can also go to the I'm Spiffy button found on my sidebar.
For the cotton yarn I used Sugar 'n Cream and the color is Peace. I love the color of this yarn and it's so bright and cheery and will make washing dishes fun.
There is still time to make this dishcloth for Mother's Day. How about making one for your mom or grandmother?
Wishing everyone a HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!

Back in March I attended Brooklyn Craft Camp hosted by Brett Bara from the TV show Knit and Crochet Now. One of the crafts I signed up for was to make a Knitted Chunky Cowl and here is the pattern to make one.
Here is the Noro yarn that I use to make the knitted cowl.
This is what the cowl looks like laid out flat on a table.
Thanks everyone and enjoy.

Note: For my cowl I just used the garter stitch or knit stitch.
How about giving this chunky cowl a try it would make a great Christmas present!

I just posted a recipe on Saturday May 4, 2013 for Spaghetti with Peppers and Arugula HERE. It was the first time I had ever cooked with arugula. I usually make arugula salad for my family so why not make a different salad instead of making the routine Iceberg, Boston, Mesclun and Romaine Lettuce? Why not give Arugula a try? Italians have been eating this lettuce for centuries.
Julie
Arugula Salad
Ingredients:
arugula
1 tomato, cut up
1 cucumber, peeled and cut up
1 small amount of red onion, peeled and cut up
Dressing:
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons olive or extra virgin olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
In a large bowl add arugula, tomato, cucumber and red onion. Add the salad dressing (or whatever salad dressing you prefer) and toss everything together.
Arugula is dark green, peppery leaf that is usually made in salads or as a cooked green. It is usually sold either by the bunch or as loose leaves.

This is a recipe that I want to share with you because it is a light and easy recipe to prepare. I found this recipe on the box of Barilla Thin Spaghetti. This is a recipe I made for my family for the first time and they loved it and I hope you all enjoy it too!
Thin Spaghetti with Peppers and Arugula
1 box Barilla Thin Spaghetti
4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1/2 onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped (I added this to the recipe for extra flavor)
1 yellow bell pepper, cut in thin strips
1 red bell pepper, cut in thin strips
Salt and pepper to taste
1/4 teaspoon hot pepper flakes (I added this to the recipe for extra flavor)
1 cup arugula, chopped (I didn't chop mine)
1/2 cup Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, grated
Directions:
1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil, and sauté onions, garlic and hot pepper flakes for 2-3 minutes.
3. Add peppers, and season with salt and pepper. Cook until soft, about 4-5 minutes.
4. Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and toss with the sauce.
5. Stir in arugula and top with cheese.
Note: Arugula is a dark green, peppery leaf that works well in salads or as a cooked green. It is available year-round, but is best when the weather is mild. Arugula is sold either by the bunch or as loose leaves (much like spinach). In general bunched arugula has larger leaves and loose-leaf arugula has smaller leaves.
* Arugula is also known in Europe as Rocket
I went to a luncheon at my friend's house last week and we all had rice pudding for dessert. Here is a recipe that I found on the Minute Rice website that I would like to share with you. My friend said that she used quick rice for her recipe, so I think that this will be similar to her recipe. I hope you all enjoy it!
Classic Minute Rice Pudding Recipe
Makes 4 Servings
Ingredients:
3 cups milk
1 cup Minute White Rice, uncooked
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 tsp. salt
2 large eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
Directions:
COMBINE milk, rice, sugar, raisins and salt in medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer for 6 minutes, stirring occasionally.
BEAT eggs and vanilla lightly in a small bowl. Stir small amount of hot mixture into eggs. Stirring constantly, slowly pour egg mixture back into hot mixture. Stirring constantly, cook on low heat 1 minute until thickened. DO NOT BOIL.
REMOVE from heat. Let stand 30 minutes. Serve warm.
Thanks everyone and enjoy.
