Hello blog friends. I can't believe that it's already the end of August. This month seemed to fly by so fast and I just want to enjoy this beautiful summer weather while I can. I will be busy next week getting ready to bring my daughter back to college.
I have my Friday Favorites - End of August Edition:
1. Outdoor Dining
We recently had one of my husband's work associates over for a BBQ. The weather was beautiful and just perfect for outdoor entertaining. We started with a charcuterie board from Wegmans. We enjoyed the olives, cheese, peppers, salami, along with rosemary bread. We had for dinner Bbq Korean beef, salmon teriyaki, and assorted salads. We also had (not pictured) for dessert a delicious strawberry shortcake from Wegmans.
These gorgeous flowers were gifted to me and stayed fresh for two weeks. For my Instagram friends, you might remember seeing this flower photo, @brklynhousewife I posted.
2. New Crochet Project
I'm so happy I have a new project that my daughter requested for me to crochet. I am crocheting Appa who is from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Appa is a sky bison.
I started making Appa and I had a problem from the beginning of reading this pattern. I was happy and thankful when I had the help of two crochet designers. You may know them from blogging and Instagram @mayakuzman and @alhanaart. Thanks, friends. :)
Starting the progress of creating and crocheting Appa. I usually work a little bit each day on the body parts. I will show you when the project is finished.
3. New Shoes
I have wanted Birkenstock sandals for a while and treated myself to a pair. I took advantage of Famous Footwear's sale of buy one get one-half price.
This is the second pair of shoes I ordered and love that they were only $20 for the sale price. I can't wait to wear these for the fall with jeans and leggings.
4. Bosco Hanging Out
Lately, we've been sitting outside after we have our dinner. You can see how Bosco enjoys relaxing with us too. I'm a little sad as I've noticed that it's getting darker earlier now in the evenings.
5. Pasta Dishes
My daughter had her friend over one evening. They made a pasta dish for dinner called cacio e pepe, which is pasta, cheese, and pepper. We also had an arugula salad with strawberries and goat cheese. YUM!
I have a lot of basil growing and I made my homemade pesto sauce. If you like pesto sauce then you are going to love this recipe. I made the pesto with bow tie pasta.
6. Beautiful Sunset
I've been taking evening walks with my husband when I don't do a Zoom Zumba class. We took a walk the other evening and we enjoyed looking at the sun setting over the water.
Wishing you all a happy Friday and weekend.
Hello blog friends. |
I discussed with you here how my daughter found some recipes on TikTok that she wanted to make.
She made this avocado egg bake for breakfast and we liked it so much that we've made it a few times.
The Avocado Egg Bake is shown below in the muffin tin before it is baked in the oven.

Below you can see how yummy the Avocado Egg Bake looks done and out of the oven.
I'd love to share with you how easy it is to make an Avocado Egg Bake.
This is a healthy breakfast or lunch idea and I hope you like this as much as my family.

Hello blog friends.
Mr. JCL and I enjoy shopping at Costco for the great buys. On a recent trip there I found some items I'd love to share with you.
We've been using Chia Seeds in a lot of our foods. We use it in our protein shakes, pudding, and cream of wheat. I remember many years ago using chia seeds to make Chia pets. Who knew that chia seeds would be so popular.
We decided to try out the Caesar Salad with dressing, parmesan cheese, lemon, and croutons. This salad tastes so good and it makes enough for at least three salads.

I was excited to try this Avocado Oil Mayonnaise for the first time. It tastes good and is so healthy.

Hello blog friends. August seems to be flying by so fast and soon we'll be approaching September. I enjoy summer and it's my favorite season. In the meantime, I will enjoy this last month of summer.
I have my Friday Favorites - August Edition:
1. Farm Stand
We recently enjoyed visiting a local farm stand for our fresh veggies and fruits. For my Instagram friends who follow me, @bklynhousewife you may remember seeing this photo I posted.
We bought tomatoes, corn, lettuce, fresh pickles in a jar, radishes, and a lot more. We enjoy eating fruits and vegetables that are farm fresh.
This corn is so sweet tasting that it doesn't need any butter! |
2. Growing Peppers
I was so happy to see small peppers growing in the large planter I have in my yard. I can't wait to cook the peppers for our dinner.
3. Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
I enjoyed watching all 3 seasons of this show on Amazon Prime. It was fun watching this American comedy-drama set in the 1950s and 1960s. I liked the fashionable outfits, the different scenes shot in New York City, and the many stars. I'm looking forward to watching season 4 which will be coming at the end of the year.
4. Dynasty
Who remembers watching the old Dynasty show back in the 80s?
Well, I started watching the CW soap opera reboot of Dynasty on Netflix. Quoted from Netflix, the show is about two of America's wealthiest families, the Carringtons and Colbys, as they feud for control over their fortune and their children. So far my favorite character on the show is Fallon Carrington who is rich, beautiful, and a modern business woman. I'm looking forward to watching all three seasons of this modern soap opera.
5. Fall
I'm looking forward to fall decorating inside and outside my house at the end of the summer. I do enjoy the summer so I'll enjoy it while I can. Some of you may remember these pumpkins I made many years ago. I use them to decorate my mantel for fall.
I'm hoping that this year the squirrels don't attack my pumpkins like they did last year.
Wishing you all a Happy Friday and weekend.
Hello blog friends.
I'm sharing some summer products I bought online at Ulta Beauty.
I enjoyed shopping online recently at the Ulta Beauty store during Covid-19. I couldn't go into any stores to shop for beauty products and shopping online is so easy if you know what you want to buy. I was happy I had a $15 gift card to use and free shipping if you spend $35. I'd love to share with you what I purchased at Ulta Beauty.
1. St. Tropez Gradual Tan Classic Everyday Body Lotion
I saw this self-tanning lotion recommended by blogger Preppy Empty Nester who loves this lotion. I ordered this in the Light/Medium color. I like this tanning lotion and it doesn't have a bad odor when applied to the skin. I also ordered a mitt to apply the lotion. This lotion also comes in Medium/Dark color which I might try next time.
2. St. Tropez Dual Sided Velvet Luxe Applicator Mitt
I ordered this mitt to go with the self-tanning lotion. I'm glad I ordered this mitt and it made applying the lotion easy with no staining on my hands or body.
3. Sally Hansen Vitamin E Nail & Cuticle Oil
I ordered this cuticle oil because my cuticles get dried out. This oil helps to keep my cuticles soft and moisturized.
4. Maybelline Volum' Express Colossal Mascara
I like the way this mascara works and I ordered another tube. You might remember me explaining about this mascara back in April here.
5. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Treatment Concealer
I have been using this concealer for my under eye area for years as read in my last post here. I love the way this concealer works and it covers my dark circles and other spots on my face. It doesn't cake up and leaves my under eye area feeling dried out.
Have you ordered or bought any beauty products lately?
