Books I've Read - May 2026

May 7, 2026

Hello friends, and happy May!

This was a good reading month for me, and I'd love to share those books with you.

Most of the books that I've read are from the library using the Libby app.  I love that I can read popular books that I can just download onto my Kindle.

Amazon

I enjoyed reading about this family drama that is set after a car accident.  This story kept me on my toes.

Amazon

My daughter bought this book to read and lent it to me.  It's a cute rom-com that is set in Italy.  It was such fun to read about being in Italy for 24 hours for a wedding and everything that takes place in that time.  I enjoyed hearing about all of the places they visited and the food.  The book even has a recipe to make an Italian dish.

Amazon

I enjoyed this book and other books by this author.  It's about a sort of writing competition for two authors who are trying to get and write about a reclusive woman's life.

If you have book recommendations, please let me know.

I will share this post at the monthly book link-up party, Share Your Shelf.  It's held on the first Thursday of each month.  Slices of Life

Hello friends, and happy May! 🌸

I'm joining Amy from the blog, Coffee and Cocktails at the Casa, for her Currently link-up.  It's held on the first Wednesday of each month.

This month, we are sharing what we are loving, weeding, enjoying, eating/drinking, and shopping for.

LOVING:  I've been seeing some Broadway shows at the Roundabout Theatre in Manhattan lately.

We enjoyed seeing Fallen Angels starring Kelli O'Hara, Rose Byrne, and Mark Consuelos.

We loved seeing The Rocky Horror Show at Studio 54 starring Luke Evans, Juliette Lewis, and Michaela Jae Rodriguez.  This was such a fun show, and the cast was amazing.

WEEDING:  We've been doing some home improvement projects in the house.  We just had our handyman put in a new shower head in our bathroom.  In another bathroom I had him do new chalk around a window and bathtub.  He had to repaint the ceiling in our kitchen due to a leak from the old showerhead.  I had him replace all of my hinges on my kitchen cabinets.  I also gave all of my kitchen knobs a good cleaning.  He also repaired a large gap/whole in the back top part of our garage.  We've had stay cats get in the garage, and even a possum got in the top rafter over the winter.  My husband had to scare the possum out of the garage.  He had leaves and garbage all around him to keep him warm.  I felt bad, but now we will not have any more animals living in our garage.

ENJOYING:  I'm enjoying the warmer weather and happy not wearing a warm coat anymore.  I love seeing the spring flowers on my walks to the gym and when I walk Lucy.

EATING/DRINKING:  I've been trying to make healthy meals for our dinner.  Below are some meals that I made recently for dinner.

I made roast pork tenderloin with string beans and spinach for dinner.

This is moo shoo pork with rice that I made for dinner.

Below, I made stuffed peppers with couscous and beans for dinner.

SHOPPING FOR:  I've been shopping for all things, baby.  I have two baby showers that I will be attending this month and next month.  I bought a pretty dress for a spring garden party that I will be attending with my daughter at the Frick Museum in June.  I will dress it up with my sandals and jewelry.  I'm happy because I bought this dress on sale at Macy's.

This is what I wore last year for the garden party at the Frick Museum.  My daughter and I had a fun time last year, and I'm looking forward to it again this year.

Betty Crocker Blueberry Muffin

April 19, 2026

Hello friends.  I love muffins and I recently made blueberry muffins from an old Cookbook that used to belong to my mom.

I found the recipe in this Betty Crocker's Cookbook copyright 1969.

The recipe make 12 small muffins.

This muffin recipe is simple to make and the muffins are not too sweet tasting.

These muffins are just perfect for a snack or for a light breakfast.

BETTY CROCKER BLUEBERRY MUFFIN
* Recipe found in Betty Crocker Cookbook - Copyright 1969

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup salad oil
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup of fresh or frozen blueberries

DIRECTIONS:

Makes 12 muffins.

Heat oven to 400 degrees F.  Use muffin cups in muffin tin.  Beat egg, stir in milk and oil.  Mix in remaining ingredients just until flour is moistened.  Batter should be lumpy.  Do not over mix.  Gently fold in blueberries.  Fill muffin cups 2/3 full.  Bake 20 to 25 minutes until gold brown.

* Note:  For the sugar, I substituted it with Monk Fruit sweetener.

**  Note:  I made these blueberry muffins again and added:
1 tablespoon of chia seeds and 1 teaspoon of vanilla.  The muffins came out great and had a little bit of crunch to them from using the chia seeds.

Books I've Read April 2026

April 2, 2026

Hello friends and happy April. 😀🌸

I'd love to share with you the books I've read recently.

All the books that I'v read, are from the library using my the Libby app.  I love that I can read popular books that I can just down load onto my Kindle.

Amazon

I enjoyed reading about the small-town romance and all the characters in Dream Harbor.  This is book 4 of 6 and a book series.  I've read other books by this author and enjoyed this easy read.

Amazon

This is book 5 of 6 of the Dream Harbor series.  I tried to read this book, but found it boring and didn't enjoy it.  I returned this book to the library.

Amazon

I enjoyed this book about a girl's weekend that goes bad.  It kept me guessing the whole time, and I couldn't put it down.

Amazon

This is a cute love story that takes place in France.  I enjoyed this light read and would recommend this book.

Amazon

This is book 1 of 3 in a book series.  I love reading books by this author and her summer reads.  I loved this story, and it kept me on my toes.  I was sorry that the ending of this book came to a stop.  I have to continue to read the next book in this series.

If you have book recommendations, please let me know.

April 1, 2026

Hello friends, and happy April! 🌸

I'm joining Amy from the blog, Coffee and Cocktails at the Casa, for her Currently link-up.  It's held on the first Wednesday of each month.

This month, we are sharing what we are loving, planting or hatching (literal or figurative - like planting an idea or hatching a plan), cleaning (spring), eating and drinking, and reading and watching.

LOVING:  I'm loving that we are in the month of April.  I am looking forward to warm and sunny spring days.  I can't wait to wear a spring coat and put away my winter coat, scarf, hat, and gloves.

PLANTING OR HATCHING:  My husband and I are hoping to spend some time going out in the city.  I'm hoping to go to some museums, like when we visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and take a walk in Central Park.

CLEANING:  I will be spring cleaning out our yard and getting ready to plant spring flowers and vegetables.

I've had my angel statue for about 30 years, which my mom gave to me, and I love it.

We had such a cold and snowy winter, and my statue of Mary fell over and the hand broke off.  We had to glue the hands back on.  I've had this statue for 31, years and it made me sad that the statue fell and cracked.  I will be moving Mary to another area of the garden, and hopefully it will stay put and not fall over.

I plant different herbs and veggies in the large pots that I put out in my yard.

I like to plant tomato plants, but I don't have much luck with getting a lot of tomatoes.  I've had better luck with cherry tomato plants.

EATING AND DRINKING:

My husband and I went out to lunch on St. Patrick's Day to a local pub.  We both had beer, and my husband had steak and I had Shephard's pie.  I was hoping to have some Irish soda bread with our meal, and I was disappointed not to have any this year.  The scarf I am wearing is from my trip to Ireland many years ago visiting The Book of Kells.  I like wearing my scarf every St. Patrick's Day.

I had a hot latte at a new coffee place that opened up in our neighborhood.  I do love to see coffee art that they make with the cream foam.

READING AND WATCHING:  I have a blog post scheduled for tomorrow on the books I've read recently.  I have been watching Shrinking,  Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, and we just started watching Hacks.  I just saw Harry Styles' One Night Manchester, and My Oxford Year and both were good.
