Costco Finds - March 2023

March 22, 2023

Hello friends.  It's been a while since I've done a Costco Finds blog post.  I didn't realize that the last time I did a post was back in June.

On my most recent shopping trip to Costco, I did notice that they are not selling any more kids or adult books.  This is such a disappointment to me.  I do on occasion like to give books as presents to people.  Does your Costco sell books?

I also found these Costco price tag secrets on Instagram.

I found some great buys I thought you'd like to see.

I spotted this Mondetta Knit Fleece Crewneck sweatshirt.  It comes in dark blue and black.  I bought the purple color to wear for spring.

I love these Marc New York jogger pants.  This is the second pair of pants I bought and they come in three colors.  I bought them in black as they go with everything and the pants are so soft.

I found these women's gummy multivitamins.  I don't like taking big pills so these are working out.

We bought these iron pills for my daughter to take each day.

These Systane dry eye drops come three in a package.  We all use these eye drops for our dry eyes.

We have a Nespresso espresso machine.  We use these Peet's capsules to make coffee each day.

I picked up this Neutrogena Hydro Boost face cream for my daughter and I.  This cream is light and soaks right into my skin.  I love how it moisturizes my face.  I usually use this or Olay Regenerist face cream.

We bought Irish soda bread before St. Patrick's Day.  The bread was ok and it tasted better heated up with butter.  I won't be buying this Irish Soda bread again.

I picked up these Puma sports bras.  I already have them and they are so comfortable.  They are perfect for my workouts at my gym and for everyday wear.

My husband likes and uses these razor blades from Harry's.

Heather from Our Life In a Click also enjoys sharing her Costco finds.

Have you bought anything from Costco lately?

Happy St. Patrick's Day 2023

March 17, 2023

Hello friends.  Happy Friday and St. Patrick's Day! ☘

I love celebrating St. Patrick's Day by going to an Irish pub for lunch or dinner with my husband.  I usually have a traditional corned beef and cabbage meal.

One of my traditions for St. Patrick's Day is to make Irish Soda Bread.

I love eating the Irish Soda Bread with butter.  It tastes so good this way.

I decided two years ago to make Irish Soda Bread Muffins.  The muffins tasted good and we even had them for breakfast with butter on top.

Wishing you a happy Friday and St. Patrick's Day!💚

How will you celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

Kitty's Gnocchi with Sausage and Broccoli

March 13, 2023

Hello friends.  I love when I find recipes from other bloggers to try out.  Kitty, from Kitty's Kozy Kitchen, recently posted on her blog that she made gnocchi with sausage and broccoli.

I've never cooked gnocchi at home.  I might have had gnocchi a long time ago in a restaurant.  Kitty's recipe looked easy to cook and I knew my family would love this Italian dish for dinner.

I went to my local grocery store and I bought two 14 ounce packages of frozen gnocchi.  I used one 14oz. package and the gnocchi was cooked and ready in about 4 minutes.

I thought this dish tasted delicious and my husband said that the dish was awesome tasting!

For Kitty's gnocchi with sausage and broccoli recipe you can click here.

Thank you Kitty for this recipe to make Gnocchi with Sausage and Broccoli!

Have you ever eaten gnocchi?

Currently - March 2023

March 6, 2023

Hello friends and happy March!

I'm linking up with Jennifer from Overflowing With Thankfulness to talk about what I'm currently loving, starting, finishing, trying, and where we're going.

LOVING:

We have an air fryer that we've been using a lot lately.  My daughter made dinner for us using the air fryer.  She made air fryer salmon bowls with vegetables and rice.  The salmon bowls were delicious tasting and a healthy meal.  I've made air fryer chicken and air fryer salmon that were easy and delicious meals.  I'm hoping to find more air fryer recipes to try out.

STARTING:

I recently started a new crochet project.  I had some leftover yarn in my stash that I wanted to use.  I'm making small crocheted shamrocks for St. Patrick's Day.

FINISHING:

I started making crocheted shamrocks a few weeks ago.  I used this easy pattern to make the shamrocks for St. Patricks Day.  I am hoping to finish the shamrocks garland soon.  To get the directions on how to crochet a garland, you can click here.

TRYING:

I'm trying to incorporate more vegetables into our dinner each night.  I made a vegetable stir-fry with olive oil, garlic, hot pepper flakes, and low-sodium soy sauce.

WHERE WE'RE GOING:

I love attending the Macy's Flower Show each year.  It's held each spring at the Macy's store in New York City and the event is free.  This year the flower show is from March 26, 2023, to April 9, 2023.  I'm hoping to attend the flower show again this year.  To read about my visit to the flower show last year, you can click here.

What is currently new with you?

Monthly Musings - February

February 23, 2023

WARM WEATHER DESTINATIONS/WINTER TRAVEL TIPS

I'm joining Holly and Patty for their Monthly Musings.  This month's topic is Warm Weather Destinations/Winter Travel Tips.

HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS:

1.  FAVORITE WARM WEATHER DESTINATIONS?  I love going to the Bahamas for a quick getaway vacation.  We like staying at the Atlantis and staying in a room at The Reef.

2.  PACKING CUBES:  YES OR NO?  I like using the Shacke Pak packing cubes I bought many years ago on Amazon.  They keep all of my clothes organized in my suitcase.

3.  FAVORITE CARRY ON?  I usually use a backpack or my Longchamp bag for all of the items I will need on the plane.

4.  ESSENTIAL ITEMS IN YOUR SUITCASE?  I usually make a list of all of the items I will need for my trip.  I have my clothes, shoes, sneakers, sandals, toiletries, handbags, beach bag, hat, laundry bag, sunscreen, medication, jewelry, etc.

5.  EXCURSIONS?  YES OR NO?  SHARE YOUR FAVORITES.  We love taking short trips to the Jersey Shore and our local beaches.  One of our favorite places we love going to is Long Beach Island in New Jersey.  The beach is beautiful and not crowded with a lot of people.  We like going in August when the water is warm.

6.  MOST RANDOM ITEMS YOU ALWAYS PACK?  I like packing wet wipes, a portable charger, and small scissors.  If I don't have a lot of space in my suitcase for a beach bag, I like using a reusable shopping bag.  Ziploc freezer bags are great for wet bathing suits, and leftover snacks.

7.  DO YOU USE A TRAVEL AGENT?  No.  We make all of our travel arrangements ourselves.

8.  FAVORITE SUNSCREEN?  I using Neutrogena and Alba.  I usually buy them at Costco.

9.  FAVORITE FLIP FLOPS OR SANDALS?  When I go away I like to wear both flip-flops and sandals.  I wear flip-flops if I am going to the pool or the beach.  I will wear casual sandals like Birkenstocks for going to breakfast and lunch.  I will wear dressier sandals for going out to dinner.

10.  FAVORITE SWIMSUIT?  I love wearing a tankini swimsuit to the beach.  I usually buy mine from LL Bean or Lands End.

After writing this blog post it makes me want to take a warm weather destination trip, or for summer to be here.

What is your favorite warm weather destination?

Vegetable Barley Soup

February 20, 2023

Hello friends.  I have an easy recipe to make vegetable barley soup.  You only need a few ingredients for this soup and the prep work is so easy.  You can have this soup made in less than an hour.

This soup is perfect to serve on a cold day for lunch or dinner.  I've made this soup two times this winter and it's delicious tasting and warms you up.  I hope you enjoy this soup.

VEGETABLE BARLEY SOUP

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3/4 cup barley, rinsed and drained
  • 6 1/2 cups of vegetable broth or chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 medium onion, diced small
  • 2 carrots, peeled and diced small
  • 1 medium potato, peeled and cut into small cubes
  • 1 large celery rib, sliced
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
    DIRECTIONS:

  1. Warm the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.  Once the oil is simmering, add the onion, carrots, and celery.  Cook until the onion has softened and turns translucent, about 7 minutes.
  2. Add the garlic, barley, potatoes, and mix all together.
  3. Add the vegetable broth, salt and pepper.  Raise the heat and bring the mixture to a boil, then cover the pot, reduce the heat and cook for 30 minutes.  If you need more liquid, add an extra cup of broth or water.
NOTES:

LEFTOVERS:  The soup keeps well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.  You can also freeze the soup in an airtight container.

BROTH:  Both vegetable or chicken broth are fine to use.

Warm yourself up on a cold day with this vegetable barley soup.
