Monthly Musings - July 2024 - Late Summer Fashion and Fun

July 25, 2024

Hello friends.  I can't believe it's already the end of July.  I'm enjoying summer and it's flying by so fast!

I'm joining Holly and Patty for their Monthly Musings link-up.  The topic for this month is Late Summer Fashion and Fun.

HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS:

1.  Summer travel-where have you been and what trips are still coming up?  We are waiting to take our beach vacation soon.

2.  Favorite things you have done so far this summer?  We've enjoyed taking our new dog Lucy to the dog park.  It's so nice to see Lucy interact with other dogs.

I went to see the Broadway show Cabaret with my daughter recently.  We had a great time and loved seeing Eddie Redmayne star in this show.

One evening my husband and I enjoyed going to an Italian feast.  We ate rice balls and clams on the half-shell that tasted so good.

3.  Share your go-to outfits this summer.  My go-to everyday outfit this summer is shorts and t-shirts with sneakers or Birkenstock rubber sandals.  When I work out at the gym I wear a T-shirt, black leggings, and my black Adidas sneakers.

4.  Summer accessories you are never without?  I can't live without my Miu Miu black sunglasses I bought in London with my daughter.

5.  Share your go-to shoes this summer.  I live in my dark blue Birkenstock rubber sandals, black Adidas sneakers, and DV by Dolce Vita ladies sneakers from Costco.

6.  Share anything spontaneous you did this summer. Big or small.  My husband and I went to a local bar and had hotdogs and beer.  We had so much fun!

7.  Have you seen any summer movies this year?  My husband and I recently watched Killers of the Flower Moon, and Unfrosted.

8.  Favorite summer sweet treat?  I bought a box of Blue Bell ice cream sandwiches that we enjoyed.  My husband and I enjoyed ice cream at L&B Spumoni Gardens on the 4th of July.

9.  Summer slow down or ready for fall?  I want the summer to slow down.  I'm enjoying summer and it's flying by too fast!

10.  Ready for back to school, if you have kids in school.  I'm so glad I don't have to worry about anything to do with back to school!

I hope you are having a great summer!😎

Trip to the Bahamas 2024 - Part 2

July 11, 2024

Hello friends.  I will finish up our trip to the Bahamas in this blog post.  In case you missed Part 1, you can read about that here.

One of the main reasons my husband and I wanted to visit the Atlantis Bahamas resort is because they had just hosted their second Wine and Food Festival.  It's a great way to meet celebrity chefs in person.

We booked well in advance our tickets to attend the Nobu Dinner with Nobu Matsuhisa.  Nobu is a famous chef with many restaurants.  His restaurant is located inside the casino at the Atlantis.  We've been to both Nobu restaurants in New York City.

Nobu gave a speech before our dinner.  We sat at a table with many other people.  Some people at our table were also from New York.  It was a nice evening and a great way to meet other interesting people.

Our menu for the evening.

Lychee nut martini.

Below is a sample of some of the delicious Japanese food we ate.

It was so nice to meet Nobu in person.  He went to every table to meet everyone who attended this dinner.

Our table stayed after everyone left the restaurant.  Then we all went to a bar in the casino for more drinks.  It was a nice way to end the evening.

The next day we relaxed at the beach and pool.  I just loved the beaches at the Atlantis.

This is an area right by the marina.  The evening was cool enough to wear a light sweatshirt.

The grounds of the Atlantis are so pretty and tropical.

I enjoyed looking at all of the fish and exotic marine life.

We used to visit the Atlantis when my daughter was little.  She loved playing in this area of the pool.  There is also a lazy river ride that is fun to do.

We enjoyed seeing the waterfalls and grounds of the Atlantis.

We also spotted Matt James from the Bachelor, Season 25 in our lobby one evening.

We enjoyed our few days at the Atlantis and we're looking forward to going back again.  Next time we'll make reservations at all the restaurants we want to eat at.  The restaurants we tried to eat at were booked up and a bit of a disappointment.  We ate at a buffet one night and had salad and sandwiches another night.  We also enjoyed Shake Shack on the first and last night of our trip.

* In case you missed Part 1 of our Bahamas trip.

Books I've Read Lately - July

July 3, 2024

Hello friends and happy July!  Wishing you all a happy 4th of July.    I am curious to see how our new puppy Lucy will act with all of the fireworks.  I will make sure to keep her quiet inside our house.

I've had a slow month and only read one book.  I am so busy with our new dog Lucy and life.  I find it hard to find quiet time to read.  I'm happy that I at least read one book for the month.  I can't wait to see what everyone else is reading.

Tom Lake by Ann Patchett -  I put this book on hold in my Libby app from the library.  I liked this book but I didn't love it.  However, I found this love story interesting how a mother tells her daughters about her love life from the past.  I also read The Dutch House by this author.

In the spring of 2020, Lara’s three daughters return to the family's orchard in Northern Michigan. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. As Lara recalls the past, her daughters examine their own lives and relationship with their mother, and are forced to reconsider the world and everything they thought they knew.

Tom Lake is a meditation on youthful love, married love, and the lives parents have led before their children were born. Both hopeful and elegiac, it explores what it means to be happy even when the world is falling apart. As in all of her novels, Ann Patchett combines compelling narrative artistry with piercing insights into family dynamics. The result is a rich and luminous story, told with profound intelligence and emotional subtlety, that demonstrates once again why she is one of the most revered and acclaimed literary talents working today.

Have you read any good books lately?

I will share this post at the monthly book link-up party Share Your Shelf.  It's held on the first Thursday of each month.  It's run by these bloggers:
