Merry Christmas - 2023

December 23, 2023

Hello friends.

I can't believe how fast the month flew by for me.  It was a busy month since I had my trip to London with my daughter at the end of last month.  When I got back from my trip I was dealing with jet lag and then I was busy decorating the house and the tree for Christmas.  I had Christmas cards to write, and Christmas shopping to do.  I am still wrapping presents as I write this blog post.

We have a new Christmas ornament to add to our tree this year.  My daughter and I picked out this London taxi cab ornament when we visited London last month.

When I get back to blogging after the new year, I will share my London trip with you.

Wishing all of my blogging friends a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year.  I appreciate all of your kind words, comments, and support over the years.

HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

See you all in the new year!

Life Lately - December 2023

December 8, 2023

Hello friends.  Happy December. 🌲

Some of you may have noticed I've been missing from my blog for a few weeks.  I thought I would do a catch-up of what's been going on in my life.

November was a busy month for me because I hosted Thanksgiving this year.  I was busy cleaning the house, planning the menu, food shopping, and cooking Thanksgiving dinner.  Thanksgiving was a big hit in spite of us losing our water heater.  It broke down early in the morning and we had to clean up a big mess in the basement.  I managed everything without having any hot water.  We couldn't get the plumber to come until Saturday morning.  I was so thankful to have hot water again.

We had over my brother and sister-in-law and their four kids.

My daughter made this beautiful charcuterie board.

I made some of the food shown here.  My sister-in-law made a lot of food and we had a lot of food leftover for a few days.  We had a meat and cheese charcuterie board, Italian bread, prosciutto bread, turkey, roast beef, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, mac and cheese, corn, cranberry sauce, and stuffed mushrooms.  We had apple crumble pie, pastries, chocolate pie, and chocolate-covered strawberries for dessert.

We were also dog-sitting Darcy and Watson for a few days for Thanksgiving weekend.  My daughter usually watches the dogs at the owner's house.  We had a great time with the dogs and it made me miss having a dog.

On November 26, 2022, Bosco passed away.  I can't believe it's already been a year and we miss Bosco so much.

In case some of you don't know, I took a trip with my daughter to London.  We left late Wednesday night 11/29/23 and arrived in London on Thursday morning of 11/30/23.  We arrived back home late Sunday night 12/3/23.  It was a quick vacation and I had a great time with my daughter in London.  I hope to share more about the trip when things settle down for me, so stay tuned.

NOTE:  I'm also sharing in my Instagram stories @brklynhousewife about my London trip.

Friday Favorites - Thanksgiving Edition 2023

November 17, 2023

Happy Friday friends.

I can't believe that Thanksgiving will be here in less than a week.  I've been busy planning and getting everything ready since I will be hosting Thanksgiving this year.

I will be making turkey breast, sausage stuffing, and corn pudding muffins are always a big hit.  I'm still trying to figure out what we'll have for an appetizer.

These recipes can be found here and Kitty's corn pudding recipe can be found at her blog here.  Thanks, Kitty for this recipe as my family loves this dish.

Yesterday on the Today show they had many all-star chefs sharing their recipes and tips for Thanksgiving.  You can read that post here.

At the beginning of the month, Sephora had a big sale on makeup and many products.  I took advantage of that sale and bought some Christmas gifts and makeup for myself.

I had many sales associates help me with my shopping list.

I bought this high-end mascara from Yves Saint Laurent in a blue color found here.  I love the pop of blue for my lashes and it'll be nice to wear for the holidays.

I found this blue eyeliner from Sephora and it goes nicely with the mascara.

I also took advantage of sales at the Gap Factory store.  I bought this sweater for the holidays and winter.  I also bought a light green sweater, and a black turtleneck top.

I bought these faux leather pants on sale.  They will look perfect with my winter sweaters.

I love how comfortable these high rise universal legging jeans are.  They look great with sneakers and boots.

I will be doing a lot of food shopping this weekend for Thanksgiving.  I'll also be getting the dining room table ready and any cleaning that I need to do.

I hope you have a happy Friday and weekend.  Wishing you a wonderful and happy Thanksgiving.

Comfort Food

November 13, 2023

Hello friends.  I'm joining Joanne from My Slices of Life, for her Not Just a Mom link-up.  This month we are discussing Comfort Food.

My family and I all love comfort food.  I love making different comfort foods for our weekly night meals.  My meals are usually quick and simple to make.  I like making a lot so that we can have left-overs for lunch or dinner.  Some nights if it's just my husband and I eating dinner, I will make enough food so that I can put half of the meal in the freezer for another dinner.

Below are some of the comfort foods I make for dinner:

Zucchini Pasta Bake

One-Pot Broccoli Pasta
I also make pasta with broccoli rabe, which is a family favorite.

Slow Cooker Lasagna

Crockpot Beef Short Ribs

Honey Garlic Pork Chops

Pizza Stuffed Mushroom

In addition to some of these dishes I make for dinner, I like to eat:

  • pizza
  • chicken wings
  • any pasta dish
  • cheese burger
  • fries
  • mashed potatoes
  • meatloaf
  • casseroles
  • grilled cheese

What comfort foods do you like?

If you would like to join in on this link-up, below you will find the topics for each month.

HAPPY NOVEMBER!

Hello friends and happy November.

I hope everyone had a happy Halloween.  I can't believe how fast the time is flying by and before you know it we'll be celebrating Thanksgiving and the holidays.

Today I linking up with Jennifer from Overflowing with Thankfulness and sharing what I'm loving, buying, prepping, borrowing, and planning.

LOVING:  I'm excited that we will be celebrating Thanksgiving in a few weeks.  It's a wonderful time of year to be with family and friends.

BUYING:  We've recently had some renovations done to our house.  We had a new garage door installed, a new toilet put into our basement bathroom, a new back door, and a new light fixture for our front stoop.  Lately I've also been buying some winter clothes, and Christmas gifts.

PREPPING:  I'm preparing for Thanksgiving since I will be hosting it this year.  I alternate taking turns hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas with my brother and sister-in-law and their kids.

BORROWING:  I don't think I'll be borrowing anything anytime soon.

PLANNING:  I will be busy planning the menu and everything for Thanksgiving.  I'm also making plans for the holidays.

Share Four Things - October 2023

October 27, 2023

Hello friends and happy Friday.  I'm linking up with Jennifer from Overflowing With Thankfulness for her fun link-up Four Things.

For the last Saturday of each month, she prompts us to share Four Things that we Loved, Read, Learned, and Ate.

LOVED:  I loved making the pumpkin coasters that I crocheted and used to decorate my mantle for fall.

READ:  I did a blog post here of all the books I've read since the spring and summer.

LEARNED:  I recently bought a kit online to crochet a small octopus.  I enjoyed making this little octopus and it was helpful that the kit came with a pattern and the instructions on a YouTube video.  I thought it came out cute and my daughter will be giving it to one of her friends.  I can't wait to make another octopus in different colored yarn.

I bought this kit on Amazon:  Crochetta Crochet Kit for Beginners.  It was only $13.49 and the box included all the yarn, crochet hook, stuffing, eyes, scissors, stitch markers, needle, and pattern instructions.

Crochetta Crochet Kit for Beginners, Amigurumi Crocheting Animals Kits w Step-by-Step Video Tutorials, Knitting Starter Pack for Adults and Kids, Jumbo 2 Octopus Familly (40%+ Yarn Content)

Here is the octopus I crocheted.

ATE:  I recently made a quiche and salad for dinner.  The quiche consisted of spinach, cheese, and ham.  You can make this quiche using kale or spinach.  This is the perfect light meal for lunch or dinner.

I hope you have a happy Friday and weekend.

Books I've Read Spring/Summer 2023

October 17, 2023

Hello friends.  It's been a while since I've shared the books I've read.  I didn't realize it's been since the spring.  I usually use my Libby app and read books from the library on my Kindle app, or borrow my husband's Kindle to read books.

HERE IS A LIST OF  BOOKS I'VE READ SINCE MAY 2023:

1)  The Chelsea Girls by Fiona Davis - I love reading books by Fiona Davis.  Each book takes place in New York City and it goes back and forth from the past and to the present.  This book was good but my least favorite of all of the books I've read by this author.

2)  The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley - I enjoyed this thriller/mystery.  This book kept me on my toes and I couldn't put it down.

3)  November 9 by Colleen Hoover - I wanted to read another Colleen Hoover book after reading Verity which was a crazy story and I didn't like the ending of the book.  I enjoyed reading this book, but I'm still not sure if I will be reading any more of Colleen Hoover's books in the future.

4)  Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney - I enjoyed reading this mystery/thriller that had many twists and turns to the story.

5)  Hotel Nantuket by Elin Hilderbrand - I love reading books by this author.  This was the perfect book to read this summer and it takes place in Nantuket, Massachusets.

6)  Nightwork by Nora Roberts - This was a different book than I'm used to reading and I enjoyed it.  I used to read Nora Robert's book all the time.  This book is filled with sadness, happiness, scary, and it has a wonderful cast of characters.

7)  Feels Like Falling by Kristy Woodson Harvey - I've read a few books by this author and I loved this story and the characters.  This book had me laughing at times.

8)  Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman - I liked this thriller and it kept me on my toes.  I couldn't put this down and it was the perfect beach read.

9)  Thrill by Jackie Collins - I found this book in our neighborhood's little free library.  It was fun to read while I was on vacation this summer at the beach on the Jersey Shore.

10)  Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus - I waited a few months to read this book and I'm glad I did.  I loved this story!  It's also been made into a series on Apple TV.

11)  In a New York Minute - Kate Spencer - I found this book to be ok but a bit long.  It takes place in New York City so it was nice to see all of the places they mention in the book.

What book are you reading and do you have any recommendations?

Fall Dollar Tree Haul 2023

October 12, 2023

Hello friends.  It's been a while since I've done a Dollar Tree post.  The last time I did one was for house hold items I bought last year.  I love going to the DT store but the one we had in our neighborhood closed down.  😡  This means I have to drive out of my way, at least a half an hour to get to the store.  This time I went while my husband waited for me in the car, so I had to make the shopping trip fast!  LOL!

I love Dollar Tree's seasonal items.  I picked up a few things to decorate my house for fall.  I also noticed that everything is now $1.25, which is still a good price.

I picked up this pumpkin to hang on the outside of my front door.

I picked up these two decorations to use on my mantel.  I love them and they look high end.  They would cost a lot in a boutique or Hallmark store.

You can see below the Dollar Tree items I used to decorate my mantel.  I also used the pumpkin crochet coasters I made HERE and added them to my mantel.

I picked up this cute sign to add into the planter I have on my front stoop.  We've had so much rain here that the paper came off of the sign.  I had to fix the sign and glue the pieces back onto the sign.  I'm hoping the paper will stay on the sign.

I also added these cute scarecrows in the planter along with some flowers.

I love Dollar Tree's cleaning products.  I use this cleaner for my windows and mirrors.

I love using these rubber gloves for washing dishes and cleaning my shower.

I've never used their spices before.  I picked up everything bagel seasoning, minced garlic, and garlic and herb seasoning.

I picked up these hair rubber bands for my daughter.

Have you bought anything from the Dollar Tree store lately?
