Books - This or That

April 5, 2021

Hello blog friends and happy April!

I recently just finished reading the book The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.  It's a historical fiction book that takes place during World War II.  It's about two sisters and what they both go through and experience while living in France.  I enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it.  Have you read this book and did you like it?

April 4th through April 10th, 2021, is National Library Week.

I love reading books and in honor of National Library Week, I thought it would be a fun idea to do:

THIS OR THAT - BOOKS

Below I have circled my answers.

1.  Buy or Borrow - I usually like to buy books online at Amazon.  I've been to my library in the past but I'm a slow reader.  I usually have to renew the book for another month.

2.  Print or Ebook - I love print books as I love holding a book in my hands to read.  Reading a book on the kindle is a great idea for when you are traveling.

3.  Indoor Reading or Outdoor Reading - I like reading books indoors but during the summer months I like to read my book in the yard.

4.  Classic or Contemporary - I like reading fiction, and historical fiction books.

5.  Bookmarks or Dog-eared - I love reading with a bookmark.  I have a collection of bookmarks to choose from.

6.  Marginalia or Clean Pages - I like to read clean paged books.  When my daughter was in high school she had most of her books with marginal notes on each page.

7.  Speed-reader or Slow and Steady - I am a slow and steady reader.  I usually read about 2 to 3 chapters each time I read a book.

You can play along and leave your answers in the comment section.
What will you pick?

  1. This was so much fun! My mom and I buy most of our books but then we pass them on to friends. I know a lot of people that love their Kindle, but I have to have a book in my hand and smell the pages, LOL!

  3. Oh, this one sounds interesting. I love historical fiction. So the game...hmmm...I'm a borrower (tiny cottage dweller!), I love printed books (I love the smell), I read outside, the classics, always bookmarks(even if I own the book), clean pages and I like to take it slow, savor the words and picture them all in my head in full detail. And now I need to go read, since it sounds delightful and it's sunny and warm outside!! Fun game!! xo

  6. I LOVED The Nightingale! It was a fabulous book. I almost always borrow my books from the library and only purchase them when our library doesn't have the one I'm looking for. I tend to read A LOT of books and fear I would fill the house with them if I bought all the books I wanted to read. I prefer a print books and I love to read outside.

  7. That sounds like an interesting book! I used to like opshopping books - I have quite a pile of books to be read that I thrifted really cheaply! But I've gotten into the library more - my kids love reading even more than I do I think, haha! So the library is great as they can get lots of new books but we don't run out of space in our book cases! :)

Hope that you had a wonderful Easter :) We had a great day celebrating with family.

  8. Loved Nightingale ! WWII historical fiction is my favorite genre. Me, I am a BIG library borrower! As a retired school librarian I am a big library supporter. Yes, I buy books on Amazon - or at Target - but rarely, and then I donate them to the library in our building. There are 53 apartments in our building and on the first floor there is a beautiful library, with lots of shelves, big windows, a porch, and a fireplace. Guess who is the librarian??? So...I mostly borrow, prefer paper books to eBooks, have a collection of bookmarks and try to match the bookmark to the book topic. And...read The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah...SO good. So sad, but SO GOOD ! I bought a copy because I could not wait for the library !

  9. Ever since the pandemic started, I haven't been to the library and do not plan to go anytime soon. That is why I have been buying books like crazy. I love both classics and contemporary works, and love reading outside especially at the beach! I use bookmarks and keep my books neat - I don't write/ underline or mark anything. I always keep a notebook at hand and write down thoughts I liked, ideas, etc. Have been doing this since 4th grade (thanks to my language teacher!!).

  10. My blogger friend got me started on audio books. They are free to borrow and just listen from your phone, iPad or use ear buds. I am garden while listening to a book. I am a fast reader. Sometimes I do read books from the Kindle app. Happy reading.

  11. This is an interesting post! I borrow most all of my books from the library...but as ebooks! I get the Kindle app and read them on my IPAD! That way I don't have to worry about being under a reading light. I tried to read The Nightingale and it felt too sad. I have the hardback book I got at a book sale though so I'll try it again sometime. There are times when I just can't read anything sad. I'm reading The Giver or Stars and highly recommend it!

  12. I haven't read The Nightingale, Julie, but I've added it to my reading list. It sounds like my kind of book!

I love libraries. Ours just re-opened last week. The quiz was really fun and made me think. I'm a bit of both when it comes to print and ebooks but I do love the feel of a book in my hands. I like historical fiction but I prefer contemporary books.

Thank you for sharing and for being a part of the Hearth and Soul Link Party Community. I’m featuring this post at the party this week. Hope to ‘see’ you there! Take care, stay well, and I wish you a wonderful week!
