Niagara Falls - Part 1

April 19, 2017

Hello blog friends, I hope you are having a nice week.  While I was away on my blog break, we decided to take a mini vacation to Niagara Falls, New York.

Niagara Falls is such a beautiful place to visit and I'm happy we decided to go during off season.  The weather was cold, but there were no huge crowds to look at the falls.

We took an early morning Amtrak train ride out of New York City, and we arrived at the Falls in the early evening.  The train ride was long but pleasant and we had wonderful views outside our train window.  The train also had wifi, plenty of leg room, bathrooms, and we were able to purchase snacks, sandwiches, and beverages.

Once we arrived at the Niagara Falls train stop, we took a short taxi ride to our hotel.  To read and learn more about Niagara Falls you can click HERE.

We stayed at the Wingate by Wyndam Hotel, on the New York side, and we were very pleased with our hotel, the room, and breakfast was also included with our stay.

Below are a few photos of our stay at the Wingate hotel.  We even had a microwave oven in the room and were able to make coffee or tea.

We arrived in the early evening on Friday March 17, 2017 - St. Patrick's Day!  ☘☘

We took a short walk to the Third Street Retreat restaurant for an Irish Dinner.

Here are a few photos of the restaurant.  We both had green beer with our meal, which was a first for me and very festive!  There I am in the bottom left photo, standing outside of the restaurant.  There was a lot of snow on the ground and I was so happy to be bundled up with my warm coat and Timberland boots.

Here is a closeup of the green beer.  I think our waiter had a fun time making our drinks!

I decided to have a rueben sandwich which consisted of rye bread, thousand island dressing, corned beef, Swiss cheese, and sauerkraut.  I also had a healthy house salad on the side.  Boy was my meal delicious!

My husband decide to have fish and chips, which I sampled.  It was the perfect choice for St. Patrick's Day!

We then took about a 15 minute scenic walk to the falls.  Haha, we both really needed that walk after our great meal.  I will have for you soon the next part of our Niagara Falls trip.

Thanks everyone for visiting and I'm looking forward to sharing with you more of my trip!  😀

  7. Looks like a fun trip! I'm from that area, so I know how cold it gets. Western NY has some awesome food too! I can't wait to take my kids to the falls this summer!

  9. Ahh, we've been to Niagara Falls several times. We have loved it there each time. It's amazing how lush and verdant the greenery is with all the moisture in the air. Love it just on the other side of the border too. Niagara on the Lake ♥

  11. We've been to the Falls many times, and it's always a fun visit. I've never been to the Falls in the winter though, probably because we never want to drive that far in poor weather. I would love to see the ice build-up around the water. Looks like you had a really relaxing train ride and a great room at your hotel. I never realized how long a trip it would be for you from NYC.
