Knitted Sweater Made With Love

Thursday, February 27, 2014

Hi friends, I would love to share with you this beautiful sweater my mom made for me.  In the summer my mom said that she wanted to knit a sweater for me and I had fun picking out the yarn that she would use.  I picked out the yarn and it is called Noro, Taiyo Col No. 7, Lot No. C.  My mom and I found the pattern together and it's called #285 Pure & Simple Neck Down Swing Coat by Diane Soucy.  If you are on Ravelry you can find the pattern there.  The sweater is a swing coat and it's perfect for wearing in this cold weather that we are having right now.

The black buttons my mom used on the sweater are antique and I love the way it looks.

On the inside of the sweater near the neck my mom sewed in this cute label.

You can see here the label inside the sweater near the top of the neck and the pretty buttons.

Looking at the sweater you can see the different effects that the yarn has made.  The yarn has made a stripe effect with many multi colors.  I love that this sweater will go with anything I wear, either a top underneath the sweater or with any colored pants or jeans.

My mom gave me this sweater in November and I love wearing it.  I have already gotten a lot of use out of wearing it due to the very cold weather we are having right now.  Thanks so much mom for making this beautiful sweater for me, I just love it.

I think that this is how I became inspired to learn how to knit and crochet from my moms love of knitting.  My mom learned to knit when she was only 11 years old by an aunt.  Since then my mom has made so many wonderful creations such as socks, scarves, and sweaters.  My mom also made for me a beautiful knitted felted handbag and you can see that here.  I think that my mom is really talented and creative and I just love that.

My mom and aunt Mary taught me how to knit one summer in 2009 and I also took a class at the Lion Brand Yarn Studio in New York City and you can see the link here.  The Lion Brand Yarn Studio gives lessons in knitting and crocheting and the classes are small and you get the one on one attention that is so vital in learning a craft.  The classes are also very affordable.  If you live in the New York City area I would definitely suggest taking a class there if you are interested.

I hope I may have inspired you in some way to take a class in knitting or crocheting if you want to learn a new craft.  It's so much fun once you learn either one.

Have a nice weekend everyone and see you on Monday for my Makeup Monday Series.

Makeup Monday - DIY Dry Shampoo

Sunday, February 23, 2014

Welcome to Makeup Monday on Julie's Lifestyle.  Each Monday I will post about a certain type of makeup, nail polish, face or hair product etc.  It will be a fun place to come visit about anything to do with beauty.

WEEK 8 - DIY DRY SHAMPOO

Hi everyone, and welcome to Makeup Monday week 8.  Let's talk about dry shampoo today.  I really don't like washing me hair everyday and to help me with keeping my hair looking fresh I like to use Dry Shampoo Spray.  Have you ever tried it before?  Well it can get costly and the cans can range from about $8 to $25 and more.  I would usually spend about $8 on a can, so I decided that I wanted to make my own and I searched Pinterest for an easy DIY Dry Shampoo tutorial and here it is.

DRY SHAMPOO FOR LIGHT HAIR

1/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup baking soda
5 - 20 drops essential oil - pink grapefruit, lavender, etc.

DRY SHAMPOO FOR DARK HAIR

1/4 cup corn starch
1/4 cup cocoa
5 - 10 drops essential oil - pink grapefruit, lavender etc.

Dip your makeup brush into the dry shampoo.  Dab the brush along your roots in sections.  Let it sit for a couple of minutes to absorb the oil and then brush out.  Style as usual.

Here is a photo of what I used to make my dry shampoo.

I store mine in a small jar and use a makeup brush to apply it.  Here is a tutorial on how to apply and use the dry shampoo HERE.

This natural homemade dry shampoo makes my hair stay fluffy with added volume.  I made the dry shampoo for light hair, but I didn't have any essential oil on hand and it still worked nice on my hair.  I didn't make the dry shampoo for dark hair since my hair is blonde.

If you don't want to wash your hair everyday this is a great alternative to use.  It's an easy way to save time on busy mornings and money and still look good.

I found this on Pinterest from Amanda at Small Home Big Start and the link is here.

See you all next week at Makeup Monday!

Pasta Peas and Bacon Recipe

Thursday, February 20, 2014

Here is an easy pasta recipe that I posted back in January of 2013 and I would love to share this recipe with you again.  This recipe does not call for a lot of ingredients and it can be made fast and in no time.  It's a family favorite in my house and I never have any leftovers.

PASTA PEAS AND BACON RECIPE

1/2 1b. bacon - cut into small pieces
1 can peas (Save juice from can of peas for the recipe)
1 lb. box ditalini pasta
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
 grated cheese

Cut bacon into small pieces and put into a large pot.  Fry the bacon until it is crispy.  Add 1 can of peas with juice to the pot and sauté.  Add salt and pepper to the peas and mix all together.  In another pot, cook the ditalini pasta until done according to the box directions.  You can cook a 1/2 to 1 pound box of pasta according to how much pasta you desire.  Drain pasta and add to the bacon and peas.  Mix everything together and serve.  Sprinkle with grated cheese.

  PASTA PEAS AND BACON

I hope you try this recipe and let me know if you liked it.  Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend and don't forget to come back on Monday for my Makeup Monday Series.

Makeup Monday - Essie Nail Polish

Monday, February 17, 2014

Welcome to Makeup Monday on Julie's Lifestyle.  Each Monday I will post about a certain type of makeup, nail polish, face or hair product etc.  It will be a fun place to come visit about anything to do with beauty.

Week 7 - Essie Nail Polish

Welcome friends to another fun week of Makeup Monday.  We are already on week 7 of the series and if you missed any of them you can find them HERE.  Today I'm going to talk about Essie Nail Polish.  My favorite color is called Ballet Slippers and I have been wearing this color for years.  This is the description of the polish:  An eternal manicurist and fashion stylist favorite, essie's classic pale pink polish is graced with a subtle, sheer finish.  This beloved award winning essential is an iconic color for all seasons.  The link for this polish can be found HERE (it's the one with the twitter bird in the top row).

I also use for the first coat of polish this bottle of millionails.  It's a treatment that nourishes the nails with a fiber shield and iron strength to help resist peeling and splitting for visibly stronger nails.  To see the link for this treatment click HERE.

I usually wear this polish in the spring and darker colors in the winter.  Can you tell that I'm wishing it was spring yet?  Have you tried this nail polish yet?  What is your favorite color?

Thanks for stopping by Makeup Monday and please come back next week.

Finished Knit Scarf and Happy Valentine's Day

Friday, February 14, 2014

Hello friends!  I have finally finished the scarf that I had been knitting and you can see the post HERE where I started working on it.  This is my first finished project for 2014 and it feels great! This scarf will be donated to the Christmas Fair at my church for the fall.  The yarn was supplied for me to use from the knit/crochet group that I belong to at my church.  I like the way the scarf came out and I love the color of this variegated yarn.

I was originally going to make this into an infinity scarf but I was not given enough yarn to work with, only a small skein, so I decided to make it into a regular scarf.  I then added a crocheted edge to the bottom of the scarf to give it a finished look.  I also finally finished reading the book Julie and Romeo by Jeanne Ray and it was a nice light read and totally I enjoyed it.

Thanks for looking at my finished knit scarf and the book that I finally finished reading too!

WISHING EVERYONE A HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

Have a great weekend everyone and don't forget to stop by on Monday for my Makeup Monday Series.

Photo Friday - Snow Please Stop Already!

Saturday, February 8, 2014

Dear Snow,

Please stop!  We have had enough of it already!

These pictures were taken on Monday afternoon and it snowed again Tuesday night into Wednesday.  Everything is covered in ice and it's so cold out.  Enough already, I want Spring!

Who else wants Spring to come?  I know I sure do and we are expected more snow tomorrow, but not too much, only one to three inches of snow.

I will be sharing this at Kati's Little Corner of the World.  She has this party the first Friday of every month.

Lobster Tails Recipe

Thursday, February 6, 2014

Here is a super easy recipe that I would love to share with you to make for a special occasion.  I think that this would be the perfect recipe to make for Valentine's Day.  You could also add rice and a vegetable for the perfect dish.  Don't forget that glass of wine too!

LOBSTER TAILS RECIPE

lobster tails
lemon juice
olive oil
pepper to taste

Preheat broiler.  Cut the shells open lengthwise down the back.  Brush meat with olive oil and season with pepper and lemon.  Place in a pan with opening facing upwards with lemon juice and water in the pan.  Broil tails for 5 to 10 minutes until lightly browned and lobster meat is opaque.  Done.  Enjoy!

Note:  I broiled my lobster tails for 10 minutes since they were large.  You can also melt butter to dunk the lobster in.

I hope that you try this recipe and the best part is it's done in minutes.

Makeup Monday - Revlon Lip Balm Stain

Sunday, February 2, 2014

Welcome to Makeup Monday on Julie's Lifestyle.  Each Monday I will post about a certain type of makeup, nail polish, face or hair product etc.  It will be a fun place to come visit about anything to do with beauty.

                           Week 5
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain

Hi friends and welcome to Week 5 of my Makeup Monday series.  Today we are talking about lip stains.  For Christmas my daughter gave me this balm stain and I really like it.  The only problem was that that it was too dark for me (the one on the right) but I gave that to her (lucky daughter).  I bought for myself the pink one on the left.  It glides on nice and it stayed on throughout the day and it did not dry out my lips.  This is a great product if you are busy and on the run like myself and so I would suggest this lip balm.  You can find this in any drugstore for about $5.99 depending on where you shop.

Have you tried this lip balm stain yet?  I hope I have inspired you to try it out.
