A Trip to Maine

April 10, 2023

Hello Friends.  We took a mini trip at the end of February to Portland, Maine.

My husband and I have been talking about taking a trip to Maine for many years.  I love New England but we just didn't get around to going there for a vacation.  My husband had a few days off from work so we decided to take a car trip to Maine.  We came to a decision that we wanted to visit Portland.  It took us about five hours to drive to Maine.  On our drive we noticed snow on both sides of the highway.  Maine had about four inches of snow.

We arrived at our destination with only stopping once at a rest stop.  We'd be staying at the Portland Harbor Hotel for a few days.  We arrived on Monday afternoon and left the hotel on Thursday morning.

The lobby was decorated in a nautical theme.  The lobby had free Starbucks coffee available every morning.

We booked a small suite room since we would be staying in Maine for a few days.  It was nice to have a living room area and a separate bedroom.

The bathroom was a large size room too.

The hallway had a little pantry area to get free soda, coffee, tea, and snacks.

The stairway leading up to the lobby.

I love the little igloos they had in the yard to hang out in.

Our first night we walked to a nice Japanese restaurant for dinner.

The food was very good.  We shared steamed dumplings.  I had miso soup and scallops with potatoes and vegetables.  My husband had a sushi bowl.

The next morning we took a 15 minute walk, while snowing, to Becky's diner for breakfast.

We had snow all day and night.  The snow did not stop us from going to the L.L. Bean store.  The drive from our hotel to the store was about 25 minutes.

The L.L. Bean store had a huge selection of clothes.

The L.L. Bean flagship store has a pond in the store.  The store is opened 24 hours a day.

Maine is known to have moose in the area.  I had to have a photo in front of the moose.

I bought this two toned pullover that was on sale.  I enjoyed visiting the L.L. Bean store and the staff was so nice and helpful.  We had the whole store to ourselves which was nice.

We took a short walk that night for dinner at 3 Dollar Deweys Ale House.  I had clam chowder, and fish and chips.  My husband had fish tacos.

We enjoyed our drinks.  After dinner we walked around and found an ice cream store and shared chocolate gelato.

The next day we had breakfast a Marcys Diner.  We enjoyed our breakfast and coffee.

We took a long walk around the area after breakfast.  I was happy to have a sunny day to sightsee.

I bought a Maine sweatshirt in a cute shop called Cool as a Moose.

We enjoyed our last night in Portland, Maine.  We had dinner at the Old Port Sea Grill.

Cocktails before dinner.

We enjoyed our appetizer of clams, oysters, and shrimp which we both shared.  I had lobster for one and my husband had lobster for two.  The food and drinks were so good.

This was our view of the street from the hotel lobby.  You can see snow on the cars and sidewalks.

It was nice to see some snow since we only had a dusting of snow this winter.

I would recommend visiting Portland and staying at the Portland Harbor Hotel.

It was so nice to get away for a few days to Maine.  I hope to go back again when the weather is warmer.  I'd love to see the lighthouses and take a boat ride.

Have you ever been to Maine?

  6. What a fun trip! We have never stayed in Portland; though we have driven through it several times. We seem to always head right to Freeport and stay right near the shops! LOL. The LL bean store is one of our favorites and we always check out the outlet store across the street too-- just in case.
