A Yarn Day in New York City

July 2, 2013

For the next few weeks I will be in Manhattan due to my daughter going to camp.  When I dropped her off today I saw that this tree was yarn bombed.  Look how pretty the tree looks covered in pink and green yarn.

Next I went to the Lion Brand Yarn Studio and here are some photos I took of the window display.  Please excuse the quality of some of the photos because you can see my reflection in the glass.  It is an under the sea theme and made with yarn.

Look at these sea creatures floating on the glass, they look like starfish to me.

Look at these beautiful sea creatures and their pretty colors.

Here you can see barnacles if you look closely on the wood.

Look at this big octopus floating around.  I am amazed by how real this looks.

Look at this mermaid hanging there with the sea horses and sea weed.

Here are some jelly fish floating around too.  If you are in New York City and love yarn this is a must see.

This is yarn that I bought to make for my nephew's wife who is expecting a baby boy in November.  I decided to pick out the light green and yellow instead of using the usually blue.

Here is another skein of light green yarn that I am going to use to make a summer knitted scarf.

Look at these pretty colors, you know what I am going to use these for.

Here is more cotton yarn that I could not resist and it was on sale.  I just love the colors and cotton yarn is nice to use in the summer.

So what do you think?  I know that I just loved my yarn day today and I guess I am a little obsessed with crocheting and knitting but I think it helps me with my everyday stress and it is something fun for me to do.  I hope I inspire someone to make something fabulous.

Thanks everyone and enjoy.

Julie

  3. Hi! Thank you for leaving your blog address when you commented on my rhubarb plum pie. I love your blog. I too am addicted to knitting and crocheting and all things yarn! I am so jealous of your NYC yarn run. I went once as a junior in high school, but I didn't get to see any yarn stores. The sea creature display is so cool! I'll be coming back to visit. :)

  4. Julie, all of the yarn creations were fabulous! I have heard of areas where they will add yard to the trees. Fun to see one. Love the colors that you chose. Great hobby for relaxation. I tried crocheting when I was a young bride. Did it way too tight and haven't tried again. Love to embroider though. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,

  5. Hi Julie, I've had a good look around your blog at your posts about my relatively new home and work place, Manhattan, and then I saw your posts about London, Windsor and Oxford and it made me really homesick, in a very good way! Great to meet you :)

  6. Oh Julie... how did I miss this post?! I love it! The Lion Brand yarn store looks like so much fun. I spoke with a rep during a Crochet / Knitting convention I attended a few years ago and what a wonderful and giving person she was. How lucky for you to visit the store. I hear the outlet store is fun too!
