Monthly Musings October 2025 - All Things Halloween

October 30, 2025

Hello friends.  Happy Halloween!

I'm joining Holly and Patty for their Monthly Musings link-up.  This month's topic is All Things Halloween.

HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS:

1.  Our favorite Halloween tradition when my daughter was little was to get her dressed up in a Halloween costume and go trick-or-treating with friends and neighbors.

My daughter and Bosco dressed up for Halloween.

2.  We have always had an easy dinner on Halloween.  We like pizza, or I'd sometimes make a crockpot meal.

3.  On Halloween, we now dress up Lucy in a costume and hand out candy to the trick-or-treaters.  I love seeing all of the kids' costumes.  Last year, Lucy was dressed up like a shark.

4.  I don't paint or carve pumpkins.  I like to put out pumpkins on my stoop with mums.  The squirrels will sometimes eat the pumpkins.  :(

5.  My favorite Halloween candy is small-sized chocolate candy.

6.  I'm giving out Dots, Tootsie Rolls, and Tootsie Roll Pops.

7.  I love fun-size candy.

8.  One of my favorite costumes my daughter wore was when she was dressed up like Hana Montana - Miley Cyrus.

9.  My favorite Halloween movies are:  Hocus Pocus, Hocus Pocus 2, Disney's Haunted Mansion, and It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.

10.  I stop handing out candy on Halloween around 8:30/9:00pm.

HAVE A HAPPY HALLOWEEN AND STAY SAFE!

  1. I love the old photos...such great memories. And how fun the Lucy gets a costume too.

  2. Such a cute costume for your daughter and Lucy. Halloween is quiet around here. We do not get any trick or treaters because we live out in the country with acreage. We always buy candy though. Happy Halloween.🎃

  3. Your daughter was so cute as Hanna Montana! I like the bite size chocolates too. Keeps the sugar and calories lower. Happy Halloween. Hugs. Kris

  4. These are always fun! What cute costumes! We usually do chili (stays warm between repeated door visits!) This year I'm giving out pre-wrapped Oreo packets. 60 were cheaper than candy!

  5. What fun photos. I miss my girls dressing up and going trick or treating. We don't carve pumpkins anymore but I do buy some to decorate outside (and the squirrels get into them as well!). Such fun memories. I love seeing Bosco and Lucy in their costumes. A few years I made dinner in a pumpkin --kind of a beef stew cooked in a pumpkin---it was good but pizza is a much better idea! Happy Halloween!

  6. We usually went with an easy meal on Halloween night too; I often fed the kids before my husband even got home so he could quickly eat while I got them dressed then we'd head out.

  7. Halloween was so fun back in the day. The twins are going as baby sharks. Can’t wait to see them. This post was fun! You have the sweetest day!

  8. Cute photos and great memories! Before retiring from Middle School I loved getting dressed in costumes. No Trick or Treaters in our retirement community, but we have a happy hour with costumes...fun!

  9. Oh I would've loved to join in on this! On Halloween we usually get Taco Bell but the rest of the month we do so many spooky meals!

    Happy Halloween! 🎃💀👻

  11. Loved watching them dress up when they were little. I too like to keep our halloween dinners simple.

  12. We do not celebrate Halloween here, though the spirit is felt at the clubs and cafes as they organize masquerades for the day. As an English teacher, I always had fund classes for Halloween, and also decorated our home when my kids were little, but that is all in the past now. Sadly!
