Hello friends. Happy Spring!
I love the sun and going to the beach each summer. I have always loved the beach and so did my mom. Growing up, my mom would pack up the car with my siblings and me and we'd go to the beach for the day and all summer long. We all learned how to swim and took swimming lessons on the beach.
We eventually moved to a new neighborhood where it took only minutes to walk to the beach. I would spend every summer at the beach with my cousins. It was so much fun, and we all loved it. I remember my mom just wearing on her skin baby oil and iodine and baking in the sun. I think the highest SPF we would wear was 4. I remember getting so many sunburns from being on the beach for hours.
Well, now I'm very cautious in the sun, and I get regular yearly skin checkups from my Dermatologist.
Over the years I've had so many biopsies done and they've all come out negative except for this year. I had a biopsy done back in March and it came out positive. My dermatologist found a small spot on my leg which I hadn't noticed before and I thought maybe it was a freckle. I was going to be referred to another doctor but they weren't available. My doctor said that she would cut the outside of the area and send it in again to be tested and I said ok. She did the procedure and it came back negative. I am so glad that it was the early stages of skin cancer and that it was caught early. I have to go every three months to the dermatologist for the next year for checkups.

I am fair like you and have to be very careful in the sun too. We all love that sunshine but we do have to watch how much exposure we get. I am always looking for a light weight foundation for when I start to tan in the summer. I will look for the one you use and try it. Happy Memorial Day. We are heading to New York for the 911 memorial. Terry has wanted to visit for a long time. He had a friend that died in 911. My SIL that is a firefighter is excited to come and see the memorial too. Our whole family is coming for a fast weekend. We will have the grand kiddos with us too. I wish it was just Terry and I Julie I would have loved to venture out and meet up with you. Maybe next time. Happy Memorial Day Weekend. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteThis is a great reminder! I'm so glad your biopsy came back negative. I do try and wear sunscreen whenever I leave the house in the summer and I wear some protection on my face every day. I like a tinted sunscreen or a tinted moisturizer with SPF...I go back and forth. I love that photo of you at the shore! Happy MDW! Let's hope this rain and cold stop soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder! So glad your biopsy was negative and that you are getting checked regularly. My husband and I go to the dermatologist next week for our check up. I had a small spot on my face ( because like you I did not use sunscreen when young) and like you they had to take more out...that was 30 years ago and since them I wear sunscreen every day, wear a hat, and sit under an umbrella. I like Bare Minerals SPF 30 tinted moisturizer everyday...but I am going to check out the one you use. Just bought SPF 50 Banana Boat Sport for the summer for our bodies....pool opens this Friday with a party - music, popsicles and prosecco. Hah...with this weather we need hot chocolate and s'mores!!!! Have a fun Memorial Day Weekend!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you were able to catch that spot early! I need to schedule a skin check. I also remember the days of spf 4 and baby oil!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great and timely reminder! I am awful about remembering sunscreen... but I tend to just avoid the sun whenever I can since I burn pretty easily (even with a high SPF I'll burn).
ReplyDeleteIt's good that you try to avoid the sun Joanne. I will try to be more careful in the sun this summer.
