Friday Favorites - Summer 2021

July 16, 2021

Hello blog friends.

Summer seems to be flying by so fast and I can't believe it's already the middle of the summer.

I have my Friday Favorites and what I'm loving lately.

I loved In The Heights on HBO Max and watched it with my husband and daughter.  The singing and dancing are amazing and I loved this story.

My daughter recommended we watch Soul on Disney +.  I'm glad we watched this movie as it was funny and sad at the same time and we both liked it.

I'm looking forward to when Clifford the Big Red Dog movie comes out.  I used to watch this cartoon with my daughter when she was little.  Some of the scenes in the movie take place in the city.  I watched the preview and it looks like a cute movie.

I just finished reading the book, The Last Bookshop in London by Madeline Martin.

August 1939:  London prepares for war as Hitler's forces sweep across Europe.  Grace Bennett has always dreamed of moving to the city, but the bunkers and drawn curtains that she finds on her arrival are not what she expected.  And she certainly never imagined she'd wind up working at Primrose Hill, a dusty old bookshop nestled in the heart of London.  Through blackouts and air raids as the Blitz intensifies, Grace discovers the power of storytelling to unite her community in ways she never dreamed-a force that triumphs over even the darkest nights of war.

I enjoyed reading this historical fiction book.  It's about friendship, love, and how Grace finds a love for reading books all set during wartime in London.

I enjoyed reading the book The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi.  The Secret Keeper is book two of the series.  I look forward to continuing with this story and this is on my to-be-read book list.

I read 28 Summers and the book - The Sixth Wedding is the continuation of the story from 28 Summers.  I look forward to adding this to my to-be-read book list.

What book are you reading now?

I've wanted to try out beauty products from The Ordinary for a while.  I ordered The Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA cream.  I ordered 1 fl. oz size and it's only $5.80.  It's the perfect size cream for traveling.  I like how this cream soaks right into my skin.

I decided to try out this eye serum Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG.  This serum is perfect for applying in the am and pm.  I bought the 1 fl. oz size for only $6.70.

Have you tried any The Ordinary products?

One evening my daughter made for us Bay Breeze drinks.  We used cranberry-flavored Vodka and a splash of pineapple juice with ice cubes.  This was delicious tasting and the perfect summer drink.

Recently my husband and I went to the beach.  It was such a beautiful day for the beach but unfortunately, the water is still a little too cold for swimming.  The water here doesn't warm up until August.  Have you been to the beach yet?

I hope you have a happy Friday and weekend.

  10. I didn’t know that The Heights was already on HBO Max. I’m glad that you enjoyed it, and the other movies. You’ve been busy reading, too, Julie. I’m reading Women of the Bible, by Shannon Bream and the Bible in a Year with Fr. Mike Schmitz. No, I haven’t been to the beach, just the pool! Happy Summer!

  12. We loved Soul on Disney plus too! We try pick a different movie from there or Netflix for our family movie night on the weekend! :) It's good you were able to get so much reading done.

I haven't tried that serum from the Ordinary but I have enjoyed the other serums I've tried - I really didn't like that moisturiser though - just so thick and hard to use I found. Not a fan of that but love the moisturising serum!

Hope you had a good weekend! It was a great one here, busy Saturday with volunteering but a relaxing Sunday :)
