Family Trip to Asia- Part 1

July 8, 2019

Hello blog friends.  I hope you enjoyed celebrating the 4th of July.
We enjoyed going out for a late lunch in our neighborhood and seeing the fireworks on TV.  We had a quiet day which we enjoyed due to my husband going to work the next day.

With a lot of planning on my husband's part with friends/business associates and myself, we took a family vacation to Asia.

We decided we would visit Singapore, Vietnam, and Hong Kong.  Some of you might have been following along with me on Instagram (@brklynhousewife) and seen some of my photos of our trip there.

I decided I would share a little bit about the trip here for some of you that might have missed seeing those photos on Instagram.

I will be dividing the trip up into many parts since we traveled to three different places in a span of two weeks.

My husband and I have both been to Singapore and Hong Kong a few times, but we have never been to Vietnam.  In 2007, my daughter had visited Singapore but enjoyed it more now that she is an adult.

We took a direct flight to Singapore which was 17 hours in the air.  We arrived exhausted in the late afternoon at the Shangri-La Hotel.

After some resting for a bit, I walked around taking a few photos of the lobby and grounds.  After seeing the pool area I knew that we would enjoy our stay for the next few days.

We agreed we wanted to experience street food for dinner.  We took a short car ride to the Chomp Chomp Food Center.

We sampled hawker food at a few food stations.  Street food is the culture and so popular in Singapore.

We all shared an oyster omelet, dipping sauces, chicken on a stick with string beans and more sauces, and shrimp noodles.

Everything was so delicious as we were so tired and hungry.

I couldn't wait to get up the next morning and do some sightseeing and shopping.

We had a small breakfast at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf because we were going to meet a friend for lunch.

Singapore is known for many huge shopping malls and we started off on Orchard Road.

We thought it was so cool to see Milk Tea served in vending machines.  My daughter picked the peach oolong tea, which reminded me of peach Snapple ice tea.

It was so amazing to see so many designer stores in the malls.

It's very hot in this part of the world, between 80 to 90 degrees.  It felt so refreshing to stay in the malls to cool off.

Please stay tuned for more adventures on my family trip to Asia.

  5. Oh loved seeing the same shopping grounds and areas (not the Shangri-La though). Kindred spirits on the bags. I bought a tan Longchamp purse somewhere there too. Looking forward to your next post.

  14. We visited Singapore in 2018. Singapore street food is very famous. Everyone, who knows about Singapore asked us to eat street food instead from restaurants. But, for that you need to know exactly what you eat. We went to Lau Pa Sat to have food. The problem was there very few people there can understand and speak English. I chose one Malaysian food, and that was a blunder.Malaysian food are generally extremely spicy. I forgot what dish I took, but I couldn't handle the heat. :D

  15. Your trip sounds amazing, Julie! I just saw the third part and wondered how I missed the first two! Love the pictures and Singapore looks quite inviting! How on earth did you make it through 17 hrs of flying? We're planning a trip to New Zealand later this year and I am not looking forward to the flight.
