Favorite Summer Makeup

July 6, 2016

Hello blogging friends, I hope you all had a great 4th of July!  I had a fun time celebrating at a family get together!  :)

As some of you know I love makeup, and today I'd love to share with you some of my favorite summer makeup!

1)  I love wearing bright pastel nail polish when summertime arrives.  Lately I have been wearing different shades of light blue on my nails.  I also like to wear white and a very light pink nail polish color.  I also find it very relaxing painting my own nails and giving myself a manicure.  Do you like painting your own nails?  I wish I could do the same with my toenails, but I always get a pedicure at the salon about every two weeks.  I also enjoy wearing bright pinks and coral colors for my toenails.  The nail polish I'm wearing is by Essie and the color is Mint Candy Apple.

Do you have a favorite color you like wearing on your nails and feet?

2)  I happen to be very fair skinned, so I decided to try out this product, Jergens Natural Glow when I saw a blog post done by my blogging friend, Ginnie from Hello Little Home.  You can click HERE and read about this sunless tanning lotion post from Ginnie.  I also saw a post done by blogging buddy AnnMarie from Musings of a Vintage Junkie and you can read her post HERE.

Well, I was so happy when I read these posts, that I went out and bought this sunless tanning product.  It's been many years since I last used this sunless tanning lotion.  It really worked great, and it gave my legs, arms, and even my face a nice even tan.  What I liked most about this product, was that there wasn't any streaking and the smell of the lotion wasn't so bad.  The price for this varies at different drug stores but ranges about $8 to $10.00.  I hope you will give this product a try.

Thanks ladies for the recommendation!

3)  I received this Make Up For Ever mascara sample from Sephora, since I had some points to use up.  This mascara happens to be one of my favorites right now.  It goes on nice without any clumps and makes my lashes look long.  It's also easy to remove with makeup towelettes or any makeup remover you like to use.  The next time I need mascara I will be purchasing this and it's about $24 at Sephora.

4)  This Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer is such a wonderful makeup product, but a really expensive one at $44 a tube.  I was given a gift certificate to Bloomingdales for Christmas, and I decided to give this tinted moisturizer a try.  I received a sample of this from Sephora and I loved it.  I have also seen this all over Pinterest and it's a very popular tinted moisturizer.  It had many great reviews and I can see why.  I really love the way this goes on your face with a blending sponge and the color I used is Nude to go with my skin coloring.  It's also lightweight and has an SPF 20 sunscreen.

I really liked this product, but I don't think I will be buying this again as it's so expensive!  There are many other BB creams and tinted moisturizers out there that work well and do not cost so much.

5)  This Creme Smooth Lip Colour in the color Lychee Parfait is by Laura Mercier and a beautiful lipstick.  I picked out this lipstick also from Bloomingdales along with the tinted moisturizer.  This lipstick goes on smooth and it's a long wearing formula that lasts for 6 to 8 hours.  This lipstick is also a splurge product that costs $28.00 a tube.  It looks really nice with a lip liner in a similar color to match the lipstick.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed this fun post on some of my favorite summer makeup!

  2. Oooh, what a pretty nail polish, my friend! I too love pastels and right now I have on a fun pink color :) I tend to stick with pinks, reds, and a nice mint color when it comes to my toe nails. And I, too, love the natural glow from Jergens.

Have a great day, Julie! Hugs

  3. I love that blue pastel nail polish. I usually do not paint my nails but I keep my toenails painted. Usually a red or hot pink. Im trying to find a bright poppy color. I dont like orangey reds. I like more of pinkish reds. I will have the salon paint my finger nails when Im ready but I use my own polish.

  4. I always enjoy hearing reviews...I have tried theJergens product but I just decided to embrace the whiteness. I never can get it on evenly and the smell..ugh. I tried Rodan and Fields as well and the same thing. Could not tolerate the smell and streaky. I guess I need some lessons on how to apply it I have tried lots of new products via Ipsy and it is fun to experiment.

  5. Julie, that nail polish color is beautiful! Perfect for Summer. I use Jergens Glow. I love it. It gives you a very natural looking tan and they have shades for all skin tones. Glad you love it as well.

  6. Oh Julie, you know that I love makeup, too! It's like playing dress-up! Love your blue nails. I like that color. I have been trying the press-on nails, but I have found that I can only keep them on for a few days then need to take them off and give my nails a break. They make your nails more susceptible to fungus, b/c water gets trapped inside. But they're great for a few days here and there. In between, I like to paint my nails too. Pedicures also done at salon, as they are harder to do.
I'm planning a makeup post soon, too. Thanks for sharing all your reviews. I have tried the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer too, and liked it. Have a great night, Julie. xo Deborah

  7. I was looking at the same color from somewhere and wish now I have bought it. But will be doing my own manicure up with my mom and sister when I'm up in the central valley. I love having my toenails at the salon too. It's just right and relaxing for me. I like the other makeup reviews on here too. Hugs, Pingxo

  8. I love your blue nails, Julie. They look beautiful! I don't normally paint my fingernails because they chip so easily, so I just file them. Once in awhile I'll put some clear polish on them. I do get a pedicure about every four weeks or so. Right now I have a sparkly red on, but I do like pinks and corals. I also tried that Sephora mascara sample and liked it. I always enjoy your make up posts!

  9. I was just thinking about you the other day and wondering when you were going to do a makeup post, and here it is!

I think I'll try that Jerkins tinted moisturizer.

    Thanks for the tips Julie!

  10. You made me want to paint nails pastel blue. One of my faves!! I decided to go with white but blue next time for sure! I use the Jergens sunless tanning mousse. It's a bronzer and tanner. I love it! I've tried that mascara before and it's great. Thanks for sharing your faves!

  12. Hi Julie! Thanks for mentioning my blog post about the Jergens. I am still using it and loving it more than ever this year. Seems they changed the formula a little and it is even better. It looks so natural. I also use Laura Mercier but in the foundation. It is also $44 but worth the coverage and natural color. I had to get mine online last time because Sephora is not carrying all of her products. I will keep splurging on it as long as I can! I have been using the same lipstick and color forever so maybe it is time to try something new. I can't wear nail polish as for some reason it drives me nutty to have it on but I do get a pedicure and always choose an OPI color. Their names are funny. The one I have on now is called Hello Hawaii....Ya! Thanks for the great review of products. I may have to try that mascara. I have a ton of points to use at Sephora!

  13. Hi Julie, thank-you for all of the make-up recommendations! I do my own nails, too, but have not tried using blue. My fave is nude pink, as it doesn't show obvious chips :) Love that lipstick color - I always have trouble finding a good shade. Hope you have lovely day. xx K

  14. I always love these posts. I get my pencil and paper out and write some of them down to look for when I shop. I would really like to try the Jergens natural glow. I wear a tanish pink for my toe nails. I used to use a bright red but this color looks better for longer I think. Hugs, Diane

  20. I have to admit I don't wear a lot of make-up. Nail polish on my tops and some mascara sometimes is about it! I'm not sure I'd even know how to put it on at this point lol. Thanks for sharing your product choices.

    Have a lovely weekend

  23. Your nails look lovely but those colours seem odd on me so I avoid them I tend to wear polish in the winter mostly

  24. I like that color of polish. I'd like to try the color lotion too. I'm always scared of streaks, but since this one doesn't have any, count me in!

  26. Fun nail polish, Julie! As a former cosmetologist, I have always loved makeup. Even though I don't wear much any longer, I still do my nails, my eyes, and I like to wear lipstick and blush. It's fun to get gussied up. It makes one feel better especially when you're as fair as we are. Thanks for a fun post.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  35. Hi Julie, I keep meaning to paint my nails, but never seem to get there. I do like that mint candy apple colour you are using, nice a light for summer.

The Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer is a bit pricey, and like you said there are cheaper ones that do the trick. I use a BB cream by Maybeline, I think it's called Dream Fresh Glow and it brightens my skin nicely without looking too obvious.

  36. Love the color of your nail polish - I haven't yet been able to do it myself, as much as I admire it on others. The mascara sounds interesting. I can't go out in summer without a self tanner on my legs! Thanks so much for linking up at Best of the Weekend!
