Five on Friday - Catching Up on Things.

February 5, 2016

Hi friends, today I'm joining Amy from Love Made My Home for her Five on Friday series.

Today I'm sharing five things I would like to take the time to catch up with.

1)  MAGAZINES - I love reading magazines and I have so many that I need to catch up with.  I have been so busy these past few weeks with getting ready for the holidays and then taking down all of the Christmas decorations and packing them away.  I just have not had the time to sit and read or the ambition.  I would like to find some time to relax and do this.

2)  CROCHETING - I love crocheting, but I want to be more motivated and inspired to work on different projects and stick to it.  I sometimes start working on something and then I loose interest or get too busy or I'm just too tired to crochet.  The crochet lap blanket that I'm currently working on is half way finished.

3)  ORGANIZE - I want to focus on organizing some areas of my house.  I have a guest room that we do not use too often that needs to be organized.  I tend to use this room as a storage room, wrap Christmas presents in, and to dump everything else that I'm not using in.  I want to straighten other areas of my house too.  I think wintertime is perfect for organizing since we are not outside that much.

4)  BOOKS - I have not read a book that I have enjoyed reading in a long time.  I am happy to report that yesterday I was invited over to my friends house and she had so many mystery books for me to choose from to read.  I picked out Mean Streak by Sandra Brown and three more mystery books.  We then had tea and cake and I had a lovely afternoon.  I was so excited yesterday that I read three chapters in the book already.  I am happy to be back reading again.

 5)  MEAL PLANNING - Now, I love cooking different recipes, and I get excited when I find a new one that I like, but I'm terrible with meal planning.  I sometimes wait all the way until the late afternoon to decide what to make for dinner.  I want to try and plan a few meals to make for dinner during the week.  Then I need to make sure I have all of the ingredients to make those dishes.

  2. Sandy we are birds of a feather, down to the guest room that is a catch all. I have not found a really good book since I finished The Round Ringford Series by Ann Purser back in December. A friend let me borrow The Painters Daughter by Julie Klassen. I enjoy her books so hopefully this one will be engaging. I am looking forward to a new Hamish Macbeth mystery my MC Beaton. It comes out this month.

  3. My guest room is exactly the same - no guests but a dumping ground for books, yarn, stitching items plus loads of model aeroplanes and paraphernalia (DH's hobby). xx

  4. I love re organising, my wardrobe and all the drawers in my bedroom had the full treatment in January. I hope yours goes well, it is so much more practical to make a guest room multi use.

  6. I hope you manage to achieve all your objectives Julie, I know I'm always full of good intentions but nothing much seems to get done haha. I'm terrible at planning meals too I try to get into the habit of deciding the evening before so that I can get everything ready in the morning. I looked up that book it looks like a good read, I'm just reading a light hearted Carol Matthews at the moment. :) xx

  7. I've got one of those great menu weekly planners with room for a shopping list below. It's great to sit down with your recipe books decide your meals for the week and list your ingredients to shop. I'd like to say I use it all the time but when I do I feel less stressed about eating and have less waste in the fridge. Hope you have a good weekend . Barbara

  8. Good luck with your to do list, wishing you every success. I have found checking the cupboard for ingredients as I go along when writing the menu for the week helps. Have a great weekend.

  9. I'm so glad you had time to read and enjoy a good book! I love reading Sandra Brown's mysteries.
I, like you, have been terribly busy the last two months. So far so good this month. I have been able to clean out a couple of cupboards and one closet; and donated stuff as well.
I still have to catch up on magazines, some newspaper articles, and stick to finishing some crochet projects.
    Have a great weekend!

  10. I would love to catch up on so many of those things you mentioned. Meal planning has been on my list forever. I am just not getting there...ps...that lap blanket in your sidebar is gorgeous. I can't get enough of those colors!

  11. Hope you can catch up with your reading and crocheting! Glad you found some books you enjoy. The decorating/organising project sounds like a big one, but it will be well worth it I am sure. Thank you for joining Five On Friday, happy weekend! xx

  13. This post resonates loudly with me. Everything you say I could have written. Great post. Has made me stop and think about how to tackle it all and accomplish it

  14. I am ashamed of my self as I have more than 5 things to get cracking on. Shame on me.
Today was the most amazing day - in the 80's and it felt like Spring and tomorrow it is going to be warmer yet. I played out in the garden and felt so good. I kinda lost all interest in my garden with the drought. Lost about 5 rose bushes. My knee is acting up and the Dr said no weed pulling or gardening. So I am on steroids and it does feel much better, but my face is red and a little swelling, which goes with the steroids, but if it makes my knee better so be it.
Hope you have a terrific weekend with nice weather.
Hugs to you dear friend. Talked about you today with my girl friend while we were having lunch and she thought it was so nice getting to know each other. And I said YES.
    Hugs,
    Mary
Poor Waldo is under the weather - has a liver condition and I have been researching a home made diet for him that will make him feel full. The prescription food isn't cutting it.

  15. This time of year is good for organizing and reorganizing. I love to read, but I go through bad book spells too.

  16. These are the same things I would like to find time for too Julie! Except swap knitting for the crocheting and swap decluttering for the organizing. I've had to put everything except blogging on hold to work on the decluttering. I've spent all evening now commenting and replying to everyone and now I'm going to read before bed. I've kind of sorted out recipes (not really satisfied with what I have left and want to work on that some more), but have found all kinds of yummy recipes that I've not tried. I hope to get to those after decluttering too! I'm sort of obsessed with it all right now. Enjoy your weekend! Wendy

  17. All the things I love to find time for, too, Julie! I always plan meals when I shop, but still end up wondering what I am going to cook for dinner around 4:30 every night! Tonight we had breakfast for dinner - bacon and eggs - because I dropped the ball again! I haven't read a good book in a while, either. I have about 6 that I stopped reading halfway through. Just couldn't get through them. There are a lot of bad writers out there! Hope you get time this weekend to do something you love! Hugs xo Karen

  18. I ought to start organizing too - but to get started is so dificult :) Do you a writer called Fred Vargas? I love her detective novels, not too cruel.

  19. Oh that could be my list - except for the crocheting it's to teach myself - and this week I've found a perfect to describe my week: behindhand! Good luck with the list, I find having a list always helps though - happy weekend

  20. I think we're soul mates Julie ;).

Didn't you know 'guest room' is a euphemism for 'catch all'? It's the law, so be happy you're not breaking it. I would hate to have to bail you out of the clinker.

And meal planning? You've GOT to be kidding? I usually figure things out around 6, while I'm cooking, and if I don't...well, that's what restaurants are for!

  21. I need to be better with meal planning too. It's hard. My brain usually doesn't want to go there. I think it's a womans worst nightmare...what to make for dinner. :)

  22. Hi Julie, I could list the very same things. These five seem to get put aside for later with me all the time. Meal planning is always a challenge. We've been doing lunch and then going light at dinner or just popcorn. It helped me drop a few pounds too!! haha
Have a great rest of the week. xo

  23. A very worthy list! They are things I need to catch up on as well.

  24. I like to sit around and read too, but it doesn't happen very often. ;) Good luck with your list! And hurrah for Valentine's Day. I fully intend to spoil the kids rotten. :)

  25. Julie, I'm working on 1, 3 and 4 also! I'm trying to make more time for reading books. As the contractors go through my house, I'm looking for more ways to organize and place things and there are some new magazines I would like to subscribe to. Great list!
