Makeup Monday - 9 Best Foods for Your Skin

May 19, 2014

Welcome to Makeup Monday on Julie's Lifestyle.  Each Monday I will post about a certain type of makeup, nail polish, face or hair product etc.  It will be a fun place to come visit about anything to do with beauty.

Week 19 - 9 Best Foods for Your Skin

Hey everyone, welcome to week 19 of my Makeup Monday Series.  Since doing this beauty series, I was curious to find out what are the best foods for our skin.  I found out that the same foods that are good for our health are also good for our skin.

1.  Tomatoes

Tomatoes are full of lycopene.  Lycopene helps eliminate skin aging free radicals caused by ultraviolet rays and protecting against sun damage.

2.  Mangoes, papaya, and apricots
If you have a washed out look, load up on fruit.  These fruits are full of pigments called carotenoids, which are stored in the layer of fat directly beneath the skin and can improve color.

3.  Cocoa Powder
Flavonals, the antioxidants in dark chocolate can reduce roughness in skin and protect agains sun damage.  Just a few ounces a day is sufficient.

4.  Flaxseeds
They are packed with omega 3 fatty acids which erase spots and smooth fine lines.

5.  Sweet Potatoes
They are full of vitamin C, which smooths wrinkles by stimulating the production of collagen.

6.  Mussels
If you are not getting enough iron, your skin will turn pale and pasty.  The solution is iron rich foods.

7.  Spinach
It may protect yourself against skin cancer.  The folate in spinach helps maintain and repair DNA, reducing the likelihood of cancer cell growth.

8.  Canned tuna
It's packed with selenium, a nutrient that preserves elastin, which keeps skin smooth and tight.

9.  Safflower Oil
If you have dry, flaky or itchy skin this cooking oil doubles as a moisturizer.

  1. Great article Julie! I'm going to copy these foods down and tape them next to my grocery list! Who wouldn't want all those benefits? On the flip side, we know sugar is aging to the skin. sigh. Have a lovely day, friend.

  10. This is so interesting! Some of these I knew about but others are surprising. I think I'll get my cocoa out and mix some with Truvia to add to milk or cold coffee. I don't think I will try the mussels though! lol I have oily skin and I think that has helped me avoid wrinkles...except between my eyes where I squint too much! Thanks for the advice my friend! Sweet hugs, Diane
