Monthly Musings January 2025 - Winter Self-Care

January 30, 2025

Hello friends.  It's been such a cold winter here and for many people who live all over.  We had snow last week and freezing weather.  I'm happy to say that this week we are finally warming up a little bit with some sunshine.

I'm joining Holly and Patty for their Monthly Musings link-up.  This month we are discussing Winter Self-Care.

HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS:

1.  What do you do to stay warm in winter?  I always dress in layers with a long-sleeved top or turtle neck and a sweater or sweatshirt.  I love using a warm blanket while I'm on the couch reading or watching TV.  In the winter I love wearing my black Tasman Ugg slippers.

2.  Favorite wintertime activity?  I don't like the winter that much so I usually like doing anything indoors.  I like curling up on the couch with a good book, occasionally crocheting, or streaming a good show or movie.

3.  Any different beauty routines in winter?  I like to use a lot of face cream, hand cream, and chapstick on my lips to help keep me moisturized.  I also use Eucerin Itch Relief body lotion when I get out of the shower during the winter months.

4.  Skating, sledding, or skiing?  No!

5.  Favorite winter recipes?  I love making soups, and crockpot meals.  This kale, bean & mushroom soup is a hit with my family.  We also like this vegetable barley soup and my crockpot beef short ribs.

6.  Favorite hot beverage?  My favorite hot beverage in the winter is any hot coffee or hot tea.

7.  Best winter memories?  I remember it always snowing in the winter and my mom dressing all of us up in snowsuits to play outside.

8.  Coldest day that you remember?  The coldest day that I can remember was last week when we had snow and freezing weather.  In my area, it's been very cold all winter and I'm looking forward to spring.

9.  How are you practicing self-care this winter?  I'm practicing self-care this winter by getting out for walks and going to the gym two to three times a week.  I have been using a lot of creams to help keep my skin moisturized during these cold months.

10.  Flannel sheets - yes or no?  No, I used to use flannel sheets but not anymore.  I use a lot of blankets on the bed to keep me warm.

  2. This post made me feel cozy and hopeful that we are halfway through winter. I hope we don't get any more of those freezing temps. I'm over the snow and especially the ice and wind! I hope you're having a good week Julie!

  3. I like to have a pile of blankets on the bed too to add and subtract layers as needed. I definitely think dressing in layers is key.

  6. I think I would really struggle with dry skin if I lived in a cold climate! Bring on the creams and lotions! I enjoyed your post today. :)

  7. We've been having a mild winter so far. Snowed a bit, melted fast. I hope for more snow, and I long for the winters of my childhood. As you, I am always dressed in layers when outside or at work, but home is too warm, so I am usually lightly dressed.

  9. I use a lot of cream instead of lotion in the winter months, especially if I hike in the wind. And I love an electric blanket....and I live in Florida! lol Stay warm and snug. Baking bread is fun too!

  10. This was fun, Julie! I prefer blankets over flannel sheets as well. Every day I have a cop of hot coffee in the morning and a cup of tea in the afternoon especially the tea during the winter months. It’s been so gray and gloomy, but on days we have a little bit of sunshine. It’s a welcome Brightness! I love all the seasons, so I guess I can’t complain the thing that gets me down in the winter the most is the dreary gray, lol. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  11. What fun, Julie - I wear some kind of scarf almost everyday to keep my neck warm, I love the fireplace and a good book or movie with a cup of tea or coffee. I up my moisturizer and serums when it gets cold. LOVE crockpot soups - tomato soup and toasted cheese is another cold weather favorite. Don't do any of those activities now...but my favorite memories are sledding and skating with friends in the little town where I grew up. Trying to self care by resting more and exercising - and a big NO to flannel sheets. Thanks for the post and having us share - have a great week !
