Monthly Musings - August 2024 - Summer's End/Back to School Prep

August 29, 2024

Hello friends.  I can't believe it's already the end of August.  I've enjoyed the summer and I look forward to enjoying cooler weather and September.

I'm joining Holly and Patty for their Monthly Musings link-up.  The topic for this month is Summer's End/Back to School Prep.

HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS:

1.  Do you meal plan?  Any family friendly recipes to share?  I do meal plan each week and it makes it easier to know what I will be having for dinner each night.  Here are a few family friendly recipes I like to make for fall.  I like to make this Sheet Pan Sausage & Peppers all the time with rice on the side.

2.  What are your back to school traditions?  It doesn't apply to me anymore.  My daughter is out of school and working.

3.  Where do you do your best shopping for kids clothes and supplies?  When my daughter was in school she wore a school uniform.  We bought school supplies at Staples.

4.  How do you transition your wardrobe for fall?  I love wearing  sweaters and long sleeve tops in fall colors.

5.  Any end of summer trips planned?  I just had a beach vacation to the Jersey Shore with my family two weeks ago.  It was nice staying in a house one block from the beach and we were able to bring our dog Lucy with us.  We had so much fun going to the beach every day.  I hope we do another beach vacation next summer.

6.  Do schools in your area start before or after Labor Day?  My area starts school after Labor Day.

7.  What are your Labor Day plans?  We plan on having a bbq with our friends.

8.  White after Labor Day?  Yes or No?  No, I don't wear white after Labor Day.

9.  Pumpkin Spice...as soon as it comes out or wait until real fall?  I usually like to have a pumpkin spice latte at least once when it's really fall like weather.

10.  Best life hacks for back to school.  This doesn't apply to me anymore but I would say make sure you are organized with everything.

  1. Back to school/end of summer is always a bittersweet time. I don't have to do any of the back to school things either. I'm glad you enjoyed your week at the beach. That sounded so nice! I like meal planning -even if we don't stick to it..I hate thinking about 'what's for dinner'! I'm excited for sweater weather!

  3. Love the summer but will enjoy Fall. Since retired I don't do any back to school shopping except for supplies that our church collects. They stock a closet at a low income school with school supplies, socks, backpacks, tissues, toiletries, etc. so that teachers can help kids in need all year. It is so easy to pick up some things when shopping...and I love buying crayons and markers for the closet. White after Labor Day...yeah, I wear my white jeans, but put away white sandals and purses and jewelry. We will go to a family picnic on Labor Day, then on September 1st I will change over all the summer decorations to Fall. Pumpkin Spice ??? I met my friends at Starbucks last week and was tempted, but going to wait until after Labor Day. Thanks for a fun survey, Julie - Have a great Labor Day Weekend!

  5. The end of the summer is always bittersweet, since I adore the warm weather, but fall is a nice season, too. I have to say even though the kids aren't in school anymore, I still find myself buying a few school supplies this time of year!!

  6. It is funny not to be on a school calendar anymore. I also love wearing long sleeves when it (finally) gets cooler here. Hope you have a good weekend!

  8. I am so happy you had time at the beach and you could bring Lucy. I bet she loved it. Terry and I are going to a house on the beach this weekend. We need a break with all the painting and moving and unpacking of the last two weeks. It will be a nice break. Happy Labor Day Weekend. Hugs. Kris
