Life Lately - July

July 17, 2023

Hello friends.  I can't believe we are already into the middle of July.  Here's what's been going on lately.

My daughter recently traveled to Ireland and England with her friend and cousin.  They had a great time and this is what my daughter brought back for us.

This headband from Ireland is so adorable.

I love this assorted tea collection.  We loved the iced peach and passion fruit tea.

I love wearing this pretty apron and using the tea towels from Harrods.
This tea mug is so cute.
We've made a few drinks with this pink strawberry-flavored gin.

I have kale growing and we've used it in our smoothies every morning.  This is my first time planting kale and it grows great in a big container.
I'm so happy to throw some cherry tomatoes I've got growing into our salads.

We have a new Poke restaurant that has opened up in our neighborhood.  We've done take-out from there a few times for dinner.

We have a stray cat who my daughter named Gracie and it looks like she wants to move in.  I came home from the gym and I found her laying on my back stoop.  This is the closest she has ever come to us.  She is afraid of us but we love it when she comes to visit.

A trip that never happened.  We were supposed to take a short trip to Las Vegas last week to meet friends for dinner and shows.  We were supposed to fly out last Sunday but we didn't make it because Delta decided to cancel our flight due to bad weather.  We made it through security and on the plane with no problems and spent a long time at the airport.  Delta told us they could fly us out to Salt Lake City at 8:00 pm that night and we would not arrive in Vegas until 3:00 pm on Monday.  We would've lost two days of travel because we were supposed to be coming back home on Thursday.  We are so bummed about our trip being canceled and I thought this would have been an easy trip.  I'm usually an over-packer and I even fit everything into my carry-on luggage and a backpack.  I am seriously thinking that airplane travel during the summer months is not such a good idea.  In the future, we might take a car trip somewhere during the summer months.

Have you had any vacation problems this summer?

What is new with you lately?

  1. I'm so sorry about your trip Julie. I hope you can make it happen later this summer or in the fall. Your daughter's trip sounded amazing. I loved all of her souveniers. Gracie is so cute. She is feeling really comfortable at your place these days. Your garden is doing great! I hope you're off to a wonderful week!

  2. Sorry about your trip. It is a crap shoot sometimes to plane airline travel. Hope you can reschedule your trip. Little Gracie is adorable. Your daughters trip sounded really nice. Love all the treasures she brought back for you. Have a great week. Hugs. Kris

  3. Julie, I always love reading about your adventures and life in general! I'm with you about not traveling during the summer on airlines! I live in Maryland - close to three major airports and back in late June, my hubby and I had an emergency trip out to LA to take care of my sister's affairs after she recently passed. Our first 6am flight out of BWI was cancelled due to weather conditions (the skies looked clear) so my hubby immediately booked a flight leaving from Dulles at 8:30am that same day. When we got to the airport around 5:30am there were hundreds of people ahead of us needing to rebook flights, too. Our flight was with United and we told them we had an 8:30 flight, but that didn't matter. We stayed in line for over three hours and missed our flight. We tried unsuccessfully to get a flight out that day or the next, but nothing was available until two days later which we took. Unfortunately, we didn't get everything done that we needed to do in LA, so we will have to go back out there soon. We decided to wait until after Labor Day just to avoid the summer travel!

  5. Sorry to hear about your trip. We were lucky, we did have an hour delay but it was all manageable. But I had a cousin who was flying from Philly to La and her flight was delayed multiple days.
    That kale is looking great.

  8. I have heard so many travel horror stories this summer. I agree about finding a road trip for summer!

  9. Such great gifts she brought home! Sorry to hear about the cancelled trip. We've been quite busy over here and do not plan to go anywhere near or far these two months. We are going on vacation in September, and we will try to survive the scorching heat

  10. We take road trips as far as going from Florida to California. It's nice to feel in control of the trip rather than being at the mercy of an airline. But we do sometimes fly. We have spent a night sleeping at an airport and an all day er waiting for a flight to resume and then having it be canceled completely. I hope you get to plan your trip again!

    1. It's a great idea to take those road trips. Air travel is not so easy during the summer months anymore. We are not sure what we are going to do about a trip. Thanks for the blog visit and enjoy the rest of the week.

  11. Julie - LOVE the apron! I am an apron person and I think next time I am in London I have to get that one. So sorry you were not able to take your trip...these airline delays are awful. We are flying for a trip to Paris in December ( husband's BIG birthday) and hoping all this chaos is over by then. We were taking a road trip to the Hudson Valley later in August, but concerned about all the flooding and roads out that happened there. Hope you get a road trip somewhere and that your future travels are smoother !

  12. I hate that your trip was cancelled! Bummer! But it looks like you have had some wonderful times at home! I'm a big fan of teas and that collection sounds wonderful! I also love your kale plant, I really need to try that out! We like to make green juice and Kale is a main ingredient! Thanks so much for sharing, it was nice getting to know you a little!

  15. That is so discouraging about your trip. I'm making a "quick and easy" trip (by flight) next week. I can only imagine how I would feel if all the planning never happens. Sigh. Love all your gifts from the UK - what fun! As is having a sweet kitty on your porch:)

  16. Julie, I'm so sorry you missed your trip. My daughter just relayed a story about a friend whose trip to Las Vegas was also canceled. I guess travel is tough this summer. I really hope you can get away later in the season. Love all the gifts your daughter brought back. My mom loved Harrods and always toted a few treasures home in their pretty bags. Enjoy the sunshine...no rain today! Yay!

  17. Oh, that is so sad that your trip was cancelled after all the trouble you went through planning and packing and getting there. Your friends must have been disappointed, too. We haven't traveled since before the pandemic and are having second thoughts about going anywhere this year, too. Glad that your daughter's trip was fun - Ireland is on my bucket list. Love all the thoughtful goodies she brought back for you. It's so nice to get little gifts for no reason other than you are being thought of. Your Kale is amazing and good to know it can be grown in a tub. Deer eat everything here, so I can't have a garden, but I can plant things in pots for my deck. I've never heard of the restaurant, but I will look for that to open around here. So sweet of you to be kind to the little kitty. She is very pretty. Don't you wish you could ask her where she came from? I hope she learns to trust you. Hope you have a nice week. Hard to believe July is almost over! xx K

  19. What lovely and thoughtful gifts you received from your daughter’s trip to Ireland, Julie! I’m so sorry about your cancelled trip to Vegas. Yes, on my flight home from Durango, Colorado, there was a maintenance issue on our plane and the flight kept getting delayed. I had to keep updating my daughter and Cissy who were picking me up. Traveling is a hassle these days.
