Make a Crochet Face Mask

April 13, 2020

Hello blog friends.

I know a lot of people now have to wear a face mask when going out to be safe from the coronavirus.

People are sewing and making face masks out of material and scarves.  I thought it would be a great idea to crochet some since I don't sew.

I crocheted a few for our family and they are so easy to crochet.  I made two of them in one afternoon.

I crocheted them in colorful multicolored cotton yarn.

You can use any cotton yarn that you have on hand.  I liked using the multicolored yarn for the masks and thought they looked so cute.  If you have solid colored yarn you can use that too.

Have fun making these crocheted masks!

  2. I haven't seen any of those but how creative. People are finding all kinds of ways to help and get the things we need. Take care this week and stay safe! I'm praying for you. I know you live in a part of the country that is hard hit. Sweet hugs, Diane

  3. Hi, What a good idea, You could also use a coffee filter behind it for added protection, just use a small safety pin to secure it or even a small piece of T-shirt material!
    Have a great new week!

  5. I sewed mine! At a point, there was a shortage of them here and I had to do something. I know they cannot replace medical masks, but they are washable, reusable and best of all you can steam iron them for security. I didn't crochet any.

  11. Julie,
Cute but you should wear a cloth one underneath it as it is too porous to prevent the droplets from your mouth and nose from getting out...Since the whole idea of a mask is NOT to protect you but to protect others from you....In Pa., the saying is My mask protects you and your mask protects me!! Tee shirt material is not good either...They recommend 100 % cotton quilter's fabric....

  14. What a cute idea! I haven't seen many homemade masks here yet, they say you only need them if you are sick, but I have tried the new sew one at home - it made hubby giggle, but we can use that if they do decide we need to wear masks when grocery shopping, haha!

Hope that you are having a nice weekend :) It's a rainy day here - perfect weather for continuing to isolate at home!

  16. Very pretty, and I also agree with all the comments about lining them. Wearing masks has never been a big thing in the UK. But it is becoming more common and I think there must be some reason why we are now the worst country in Europe for infections. I think wearing masks will be the way we can get back to work.

  17. A nice fashion statement, just wear it over a protective mask that will filter the virus from going out and from entering.
