Lentil Salad Recipe

May 31, 2017

Hello friends!  I hope you all had a great Memorial Day Weekend!

I love making all kinds of salads once the weather gets warmer.  I love eating salads for lunch and with our dinner.

I have this really easy and delicious lentil salad to share with you.

I used Trader Joe's Steamed Lentils for this recipe instead of steaming the lentils myself.  If you don't have a TJ's near you than you can buy a bag of lentils and cook and steam them.

Below is the box of steamed lentils I used for this recipe.

This is what the TJ's steamed lentils look like when added to a salad bowl.  I am so happy I found these lentils and they made the recipe so easy to make and assemble.

Here is the chopped up celery, carrots, and red onion.  You can add whatever you like to the salad.

This salad is so healthy and it tastes great.  It was the first time I made this salad for my family and they loved it.  I hope you all like it too.  ðŸ˜€

I will be making this lentil salad for the next BBQ I host or for any that I will be attending!

Things To Do For Memorial Day Weekend 2017

May 24, 2017

Things To Do For Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day is an American holiday observed on the last day in May.  It honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.  Please remember the sacrifices made for the red, white, and blue.

Memorial Day weekend usually kicks off the start of summer with tons of things to do.  I made a list of fun things that you and your family can do for the weekend.

  • Visit Fleet Week

Fleet Week New York, now in its 29th year, is the city’s time-honored celebration of the sea services. It is an unparalleled opportunity for the citizens of New York and the surrounding tri-state area to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as witness firsthand the latest capabilities of today’s maritime services. The weeklong celebration has been held nearly every year since 1984.
  • Go to a local Memorial Day parade held in your neighborhood
  • Have a Barbecue
  • Go to a local park and have a picnic
  • Go to the beach
  • Ride a bike
  • Go to see a block buster movie
  • Read a book, like a popular summer beach read
  • Take a mini vacation
  • Go out to eat for lunch or dinner at your favorite restaurant
  • Visit a museum
  • Retail shopping for clothes, summer housewares, outdoor furniture, a new bbq grill, etc.
  • Visit an old fashioned ice cream polar

Wishing you all a Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Do you have any special plans for the weekend?  I will be going to a BBQ on Sunday and Monday I will be BBQing with family and friends at my house! 😀

Whatever you do, I hope you have a fun and relaxing time with your family or friends.

Thanks for shopping by, and Jess and I will see you all back here on Monday for our Cooking and Crafting with J & J Link Up.

Assorted Makeup Finds - I Love Right Now

May 17, 2017

Hello friends.  I hope you're all enjoying the week.  I have a fun post to share with you about some of my favorite makeup.

As you all know I love makeup, and I enjoy finding new cosmetics to try out.  Here are a few makeup products I love using right now.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Finish Powder Foundation.

I have always used liquid CC cream foundation or just regular liquid foundation in the past.  I decided to try a few years ago the Bare Minerals powder foundation and I loved it.  Unfortunately the powder foundation I liked is discontinued and not made anymore.  This Make Up For Ever powder foundation is another one that is just as good and I love it.  I like that there is a makeup sponge in the bottom of the case to apply the foundation.  This Make Up For Ever powder foundation is so easy to apply and it leaves a natural matte finish to your face.  This foundation is so perfect for travel as it's not a liquid and it won't spill in your makeup bag.

Tarte - Tartelette Tease Amazonian Clay Matte Palette.

I discovered this cute eyeshadow palette, when a family member gave this to my daughter for Christmas.  I loved the eyeshadow colors in this palette so much, that I bought one for myself.  The colors are different shades of light tan/brown and perfect for everyday wear.  They are easy to apply with a makeup brush.

Makeup tip:  I always apply eyeshadow primer to my lids before applying eyeshadow, so that the eyeshadow stays and lasts longer on my eyelids.

I like using the whisper color on my lids and wink color in the crease of my eyes.  I have also used the darker colors for evenings if I'm going out.

NYX Matte Lip Liner.

I used to use an Avon lip liner that I loved for years but have since changed to this lip liner.  This matte lip liner works well when applied to my lips, and it comes in many colors.  I really love that these lipliners only cost $4.  I use this lip liner before I apply any type of lipstick or lipgloss.  I always use a natural colored lip liner to go with any color lipstick or lipgloss.

Tarte Exposed Amazonian Clay Blush.

I discovered this blush when I was given a sample size of this from Sephora.  This is a good blush and the colors available are natural and the shades look very pretty when applied to your face.

Tarte - Tartiest Creamy Matte Lip Paint.

This lip paint was also discovered when I received this as a sample from Sephora.  I am in their (Sephora) system and received the sample size of blush and lip paint for my birthday.

I love this lip paint and it's a matte lip gloss.  This is one of my favorites and it stays on your lips for hours when used with a lip liner.  The color I received is birthday suit which is a nude color and just perfect for day wear.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all enjoy some of my makeup finds.

Have you used any of these makeup products?  I'd love to know.

Ham Cheese and Kale Quiche

May 10, 2017

Hey friends, I have this easy to make quiche recipe to share with you today using leftover ham.

I love using up leftovers and making them into delicious recipes, how about you?  The ham I used for this recipe is used from a spiral baked ham that I made for Easter.  I made a three pound ham which was the perfect size for our family.

We had some left over ham that I made for sandwiches the next day and the rest I decided to use in this quiche.  The ham I used for the recipe is from Trader Joe's and weighed about 3 pounds.  This ham was so good and I will be making this again for next year.

Here are some of the ingredients I used to make this easy and healthy dish.

Below you can see the quiche is ready to be baked in the oven.

If you don't like ham then you can still make this quiche dish using cheese, kale and the rest of the ingredients.

The ham, cheese and kale quiche baked and done right out of the oven.

HAM CHEESE AND KALE QUICHE

Ham Cheese and Kale Quiche

Recipe by Julie @ Julie's Creative Lifestyle
This is an easy quiche dish to put together using leftover ham.
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 40 minutes
Total time: 45 minutes
Yield: 3 to 4 people
Ingredients
  • 1 cup kale
  • 1 cup ham
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup swiss cheese
  • 1/2 cup original Betty Crocker Bisquick mix
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 eggs
Cooking Directions
  1. Heat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 9 inch pie plate. Stir together kale, ham, and cheese in pie plate. Stir remaining ingredients together until blended and add to pie plate. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until golden brown and knife inserted in center of pie comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes.
Done.  Enjoy!

I hope you enjoy this quiche recipe and it goes great with a salad on the side.  Please let me know if you make this dish and how you liked it.

Another great idea is to serve this ham cheese and kale quiche for brunch on Mother's Day.

Learning to Crochet the Seed Stitch

May 3, 2017

Hello friends.  I recently went to my Tuesday crochet club meeting at my church, and I learned a new crochet stitch!

crochet stitch @ Julie's Creative Lifestyle

I learned how to crochet the seed stitch!  :)

I taught a lady that joined our crochet group how to crochet.  She also learned how to crochet by using this crochet book shown below, and by looking at YouTube video's which featured different crochet stitches.  My friend was so eager to learn how to crochet and was so inspired by it.

At our crochet club meeting, my friend happened to be making a crocheted scarf using the seed stitch (link with tutorial on this stitch).

Front of Crochet Book

Back of Crochet Book

I was so inspired to learn the seed stitch and make a scarf like my friend did.  So she gave me this book to keep.  Inside this book has easy to learn step-by-step tutorials on different crochet stitches.

I'm so eager to learn other stitches that are inside this book.  I started making a crochet scarf using the seed stitch.  Below is the start of the scarf that I will be donating to our crochet sale we have each fall at my church.

The yarn I used for this scarf is:  Red Heart Super Saver in the color Shaded Dusk.
The crochet hook I used is:  US size I

To make seed stitches, you need to start with a foundation chain that has any odd number of chains.  To see a tutorial on how to crochet the seed stitch you can click HERE.

The seed stitch is also a very good crochet stitch to use to make dishcloths.

Have you learned any new crochet stitches?

Thanks so much for stopping by for a visit.  I hope you all enjoy the end of the week and weekend.  Jess and I will see you back here on Monday for our Cooking and Crafting with J & J Link Up!
