Hi everyone, I hope you're enjoying the week. I belong to a small group of knitters and crocheters that get together and meet at the Barnes & Noble Cafe in Union Square, New York City, once a month.
I look forward to this meet up, and since I was early, I decided to take a few photos of the area to share with you.
Below is a statue in Union Square Park of Abraham Lincoln, and there are many other statues, trees and benches, with people just sitting and enjoying the park.

I just love how pretty the park looks, and there are even tables to sit at and perhaps eat lunch.
There is also the amazing Union Square Greenmarket which has many different vendors selling all kinds of fresh vegetables, fruits, plants, flowers, and food from many farms. This is so fun to visit and shop for various items.
These cute blooming sunflowers are one of my favorite summer flowers.
Finally, I arrive at the Barnes & Noble Cafe and sit with my friends, enjoying coffee, looking at crochet magazines, and crocheting potholders!
Some of you may recognize my crochet potholders from Instagram. You can follow along with me HERE @brklynhousewife. I look forward to becoming new IG friends.
I really enjoy our meetings and it's sometimes fun to see the reaction and smiles on peoples faces when they see us knitting and crocheting together.
Have you ever knitted or crocheted in public?
By the way, while I was in Barnes & Noble, I had some time to look at the books. I was so looking forward to reading a new book, but believe it or not I didn't see any that I wanted to read. If you are reading any good books, and have any recommendations, please let me know in the comments area.
If you would like to make one of these potholders, you can click HERE for the pattern. The cotton yarn I used is Sugar'n Cream, Holly Jolly Prints. The crochet needle is US size I.
Thanks for coming along with me for my little tour of the park, greenmarket, and Barnes & Noble.
If you would like to see more of my crochet creations, click HERE, and my knitting creations, click HERE.
If you are ever in New York City, please take the time to visit this area, as there's a lot of shopping, restaurants, the park, and of course Barnes & Noble Book Store.
I hope you all enjoy the rest of the week and weekend.

Thanks everyone and enjoy!

What a fun day! The park looks so pretty!! I meant to tell you that I finished the Sandra Brown book you mentioned recently and I liked it! I can't think of anything that I've read lately that I could recommend to you. It's got to be really good for me to do that!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place to meet up with kitting and crocheting friends, Julie. I meet every two weeks with a group, but your spot whole make the outing so enjoyable. I'll have to look up your potholder pattern. Thanks for the link!
ReplyDeleteAlso, your sausage and potatoes oven meal looks so easy and delicious! Thanks for the inspiration, as I'm going to try it soon, my friend!
Julie, I think that is so nice! What a gorgeous place to meet! Lots of awesome things going on around there :D I could sit there all day! Lovely piece you crocheted. Thanks for sharing!

How lovely to get to meet up with your yarny friends! A lovely place to meet too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful park! My mom used to have a knitting group that met weekly at one place or another. I think it is fun to have a group to troubleshoot with and learn from (or at least a group to talk to and have others know what the heck it is you are talking about!)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun get together. I love all of the outside vendors and would want to spend all my time...and money there! lol And no...I have to concentrate to crochet. I would make a mess if I tried to crochet and anything else. Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteI love the area around Union Square Park, and enjoyed seeing your photos. The crochet meet up sounds like a lot of fun, and yes, if I saw a group of people crocheting in B & N, it would definitely get my attention...and make me smile!
ReplyDeleteHi, Julie!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful park in NY!! I've never been in NY, but if someday my dream will get true, I'll visit for sure this wonderful places! I love the idea of your crochet group meating once a week! It's really a long long time ago that I did something like crochet. But guess what? You gave me right now the inspiration, and I think I'll give it try again! ;-) Thank you for sharing! I wish you a wonderful week ;-)
Barnes & Noble is such a great bookstore, too bad many are closing. Union square also has great restaurants. It's an area we don't visit too often, but it's a fun place to be!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend Julie! Another good one heading our way :)

What a great and fun meet up each month. I bet it brings smiles to those faces in the cafe to see you all being so creative. The potholders are so pretty. Love the colors in them.
ReplyDeleteHave a great rest of your week Julie.
Kris
Hi Julie, what fun to gather with your group of friends to crochet and knit. Sounds like a great group. Love your potholders and the pretty yarn color. I have crocheted in public while waiting for an appt. Not a lot of people around, but still away from home.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and the great city pics. Have a nice weekend ahead. xo
How fun to be able to meet up with such a wonderful group every month. Your photos were delightful to look at, my friend. Enjoy the upcoming weekend! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to be meeting at B&N Bookstore! My favorite big chain bookstore and I'm going there today after lunch. Keep crocheting my friend! Hugs, Ping
ReplyDeleteI have been to NYC may times, as my husband is from there, but I don't remember Union Square! He says we have been by it....now I want to go! Yes, I have knitted in public and we always get comments, especially from the men! What a fun thing to meet up at Barnes and Noble. I could spend hours there.
ReplyDeleteI visited NYC in April, hitting Union Square and The Green Market! Quite a treat and beautiful sight! One of our favorite stores, Nordstrom Rack was in that area! We visited it twice! :) ...Sounds like a fun get-together you had planned! Unfortunately, even after two grandmothers and a MIL's instruction, knitting and crocheting is still not a gift of mine. Just never got the hang of it! But they all enjoyed it and made some beautiful things! ...And guess what??? YOU are the WINNER of the personalized custom cow cup from my "shelfie" post!!! Email me at rmgrice{at}yahoo.com with your address and we'll send it out! If you'd like another color besides gold, let me know... and what letter! CONGRATULATIONS!!! :) ~Rhonda
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun group to belong to. I bet you do get some smiles and curious glances from lots of folks. I think it is awesome! Such a lovely place to meet as well. Have a wonderful week.

I used to join a knitting group in a local B&N! It was fun and no one really noticed our activity. I think they were too busy eating!! ;)
