Friday Favorites - August

August 2, 2019

Hello everyone and Happy Friday!

I am happy to share some of my favorites for August.

1.  Using the Final Straw

I'm still using my final straw and used it again recently when I went to lunch with a friend.  I keep my straw in a ziplock bag in my handbag.  I just wash the straw when I get home.  I mentioned in another Friday Favorites post HERE on how it's good to use a metal straw.  So many plastic straws are used every day and it is not good for our environment.  They sell metal straws at Final Straw website, on Amazon, and your local stores might sell them.

We recently went shopping at Whole Foods and I saw this sign about banning plastic straws.  I noticed that many restaurants and stores are starting this movement so that we can have a better environment.

3.  New Soap

I am trying to be more conscious about NOT using as much plastic.  I bought this bar of soap at Whole Foods.  This soap can be used as a body wash and shampoo.  I love that the proceeds go to helping the homeless people living on the streets.  This bar of soap can be bought at Whole Foods and on Amazon.

4.  Summer Reading

I picked up this book Lost and Found Sisters by Jill Shalvis many years ago at a book sale at our library.  I am so happy I finally decided to read it.  It's a story of friendship, love, family, and sisterhood.

5.  It's a 10

I love using this product in my hair.  I have color-treated hair that tends to get frizzy and dried out.  When I apply this spray to my hair it makes it so nice and soft and it tames the frizz.  I bought mine on Amazon and it can be found at your local pharmacy.

6.  Tomato Plants

I planted two tomato plants this year and I'm starting to get tomatoes.  I hope that the squirrels do not eat them like they did last year.  I only planted the two plants and I miss not having any herbs or more veggies.

7.  Dog Sitting

We watched our neighbors three dogs for them again recently while they were gone for the weekend.  We all enjoyed spending time and playing with the dogs.

8.  Lunch at a New Restaurant

I love trying out new restaurants.  My daughter and I had a lovely lunch together.  I had a fish sandwich, fries, and diet coke in an old fashioned bottle.  Seen below, I used their straw before I had bought my final straw.

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a happy Friday and weekend.

  5. I have got to get a metal straw Julie, I use a straw in my water 24/7 and not only are straws bad for the environment, it's probably not healthy to use the same straw for a long time, I'm sure it gets full of bacteria, yuk! I have been trying not to use plastic bags at the grocery and always recycle the ones they use for my groceries...I swear the baggers {around here anyway} use so many more plastic bags than necessary, it makes me crazy! Thanks for all the fun info!

  6. I love your Friday finds Julie. I have a steel straw I use now too. It keeps the drinks cold too. I love the soap from Whole Foods. I might have to get a few bars of that for my annual charity girlfriend party. I could use these for prizes. Everything has to benefit a charity so this would be great. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Paper or Silicone Straws are good alternatives for someone who is sensitive to metal. The only grocery store in my town automatically bags groceries in plastic grocery bags unless I ask for paper. It's frustrating and I don't know why they don't just switch to paper.
Soaps from Whole Foods are wonderful!

  8. I love reading about your favorites, Julie! Those straws would make nice Christmas gifts. I have a heavy plastic straw that came with one of my drink containers, and I can put it in the dishwasher. I need to check out that hair product, too.

  12. The straw movement seems little, but I think it's going to show huge impact. Your neighbors are lucky to have you to watch their dogs. :)
