Memorial Day is an American holiday observed on the last day in May. It honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Please remember the sacrifices made for the red, white, and blue.

Memorial Day weekend usually kicks off the start of summer with tons of things to do. I made a list of fun things that you and your family can do for the weekend.

Visit Fleet Week

Fleet Week New York, now in its 29th year, is the city’s time-honored celebration of the sea services. It is an unparalleled opportunity for the citizens of New York and the surrounding tri-state area to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as witness firsthand the latest capabilities of today’s maritime services. The weeklong celebration has been held nearly every year since 1984.

Go to a local Memorial Day parade held in your neighborhood
Have a Barbecue
Go to a local park and have a picnic
Go to the beach
Ride a bike
Go to see a block buster movie
Read a book, like a popular summer beach read
Take a mini vacation
Go out to eat for lunch or dinner at your favorite restaurant
Visit a museum
Retail shopping for clothes, summer housewares, outdoor furniture, a new bbq grill, etc.
Visit an old fashioned ice cream polar
