Hello friends.
We are continuing our trip to Rome and London. In case you missed the first, second, and third blog posts about our trip, you can click the links at the bottom of this post.
I'm wrapping up our last days in Rome.
This is the outside of St. Peter's Basilica. There were huge lines to see St. Peter's. We chose to see the Sistine Chapel instead, and we are glad we had tickets for that.
We ordered tickets ahead of time to see the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican Museum. We had to wait online, but there was a guard who let us skip ahead because he said my daughter was beautiful! LOL. We were also nervous that we didn't have our passports with us, but we got in no problem without them. I did have photos of our passports on my phone.
Looking at all of the beautiful art work on the ceilings was just incredible!
We visited the Roman Forum, and it was so amazing to walk around and see the ruins and the Colosseum.
My husband and I did not have tickets to get inside to see the Colosseum, but we enjoyed walking around the area.
It was a very hot and humid day, and it's a good idea to have water, a hat, and sunglasses with you.
After a few hours of walking around, we both stopped and got an Aperol Spritz to cool off with. There was a stand on the side of the road that had Italian food and drink. It's located right along the Tiber River.
We enjoyed our last delicious meal in Rome at Osteria La Gensola.
We all enjoyed walking along the cobblestone streets and loved sitting outside for our last Italian meal.
I'm happy that we went to Rome, Italy, at the beginning of June, as it was hot and crowded with a lot of people. It only gets more crowded during the months of July and August. I loved Rome and visiting all of the famous sights and eating the delicious food. I can't wait to go back and explore more areas of Italy.

I'll share next about our weekend in London, England.
I have enjoyed following along on your trip. I loved Rome and didn't expect to! I really miss those cobblestone streets and eating outside everywhere! It's lucky to have a beautiful daughter to skip the line. :) The idea of an Aperole spritz stand sounds amazing! What an awesome trip!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun to go along with you through your posts. How nice you could eat that yummy food outside. The history alone in Rome is amazing. If you go back you should try and get tickets to see the Pope and see the Vatican. My daughter went on her honeymoon and said it was so gorgeous. They won tickets in the lottery to actually meet with the pope. They loved Italy. They went in October and it was nice weather and not a lot of tourists. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your photos and remembered a wonderful holiday we had in Rome back in 2012. We also did not get into St. Peter's Basilica. The Sistine Chapel was obviously incredible, but oh so full!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from Busy Monday.
Sometime I must try an Aperol Spritz! Even the name sounds refreshing. I've always wanted to see the Sistine Chapel. That art is stunning. And you "did" the Forum and Colosseum as we did the Tower of London -- no ticket but walking around was fascinating, especially with some background before and/or those good online bits! So much easier now than 10 or 15 years ago! You can still get a tremendous lot out of it. And that pasta looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteJulie, you really brought back memories of our trip to Rome back in 1973! It was breathtaking!! My hubby had a business trip and I tagged along. It was amazing to see lots of the places I read about when I took Latin in middle school - Vatican City, St. Peter's Basilica, making wishes at the Trevi Fountain, etc. Although it was disappointing to me to see the size of the Roman colosseum after having read about how huge everything was - "in my mind" - seating for over 50,000 spectators, the chariots and fights between gladiators, etc! Thanks for the memories I had forgotten about!!!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a really wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing Julie- Rome remains at the top of my list as the most beautiful and wonderful place I have ever been
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous time you had in Italy! Your photos are beautiful...so much history. Glad you had a great time!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to wrap up your trip to Rome. Pasta in Italy is so different from what we get here...delicious! I have never been so hot as I was when we were in Rome in the month of June.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful trip and Rome is gorgeous! My granddaughter absolutely loved it there. I hope you have a wonderful week! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteWow Julie, it all looks fabulous. Beautiful architecture. I love taking this virtual tour. The food looks delicious. They always say pasta in an Italy is so different than here. It would be fun to experience of all this. Thanks for taking me along.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the virtual trip through Rome. I have been there but it was fun to see it through your eyes.
