Growing Seeds Indoors

April 22, 2020

Hello blog friends.

Happy Earth Day!

Back in March, I decided I wanted to plan out my container gardening by planting vegetables and lettuce seeds.

I ordered on Amazon the seed starter kit, and some vegetable and lettuce seeds.  I added to the trays dirt and seeds as seen below.  The seed starter kit came with labels that I wrote out the name and placed them in each section.

Day 1 - 4/1/20

You can see below the growing process.

Day 1 - 4/1/20

I added water to each section and placed the cover on the trays with a half vent.  I placed each of them in a big tray and put it on my window sill indoors where the sun shines in the afternoon.

Day 1 - 4/1/20

Day 6 - 4/6/20

Day 13 - 4/13/20

Day 17 - 4/17/20

I will soon be transferring the seeds into pots and bring them outside when the weather is warmer.

I will need to add chicken wire or something around the pots since I have a lot of squirrels that run around my yard.  The squirrels love to dig up the dirt.  Using the chicken wire was recommended by a neighbor.  I'm hoping that this works to keep the squirrels away.

Happy Earth Day!

Have you done any gardening lately?

  4. I'm late getting mine started because we can't plant until the end of May here. I used egg cartons for mine but I like your seed starter kit with the lid. Definitely trying this next year instead!

  6. Hi, Julie. I really think everyone should be doing this. Squirrels can go over anything---but your fencing will keep rabbits from munching, lol. Looking great! We have filled an entire greenhouse with starts...it's very satisfying to know you will have delicious food in 60 days or so. Hugs, Sandi

  7. Julie,
    Good Morning!!
I too am thinking of planting some seeds and seeing how they do but flower seeds and not vegetables... I can not eat veggies because of my IBS. We have snow flurries predicted for this week so i will not be starting seeds for sometime as I really do not have anywhere to keep them in the house....Thanks so much for stopping by!! Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
    Hugs

  10. They look great so far. I always do well with planting the seeds and getting them to grow but transferring them and keeping them going... not so much!
