Cleaning Out and Organizing My House

April 18, 2018

Hello friends.  I hope you are all enjoying your week.  Do you like cleaning out and organizing your house?  Well, with spring here it's the perfect time of year to clean out and organize your house.

Bags of our things to Donate

Well, I have been so busy lately cleaning out and organizing everything in each of the rooms in my house.  We have been in our house for many years.  When you are living in a house for 23 years you just seem to accumulate A LOT OF STUFF!!

I hate throwing away something that is in good condition in the trash when I know I can donate it to someone else to enjoy.

I have been organizing and doing this on a daily basis now for the past few years.  I have lost track of how many bags I have donated but it's well over 50 bags.

Where do I bring everything that I'm donating?

I like to bring everything to the Salvation Army and to my church.

If it's clothes and shoes that I'm donating then it's to a church that I call up and they will drive to my house and pick up all the bags.  This church will then give the clothing to people that are in need that live in that area.

We also have a clothing drive held twice a year at my church that I love to donate gently used clothing, shoes, and coats to.

What items do I donate?

This past Christmas I donated to my church two bags of Christmas decorations that I did not need anymore.  I brought them to the food pantry that is held at my church each week.  I usually put all of the items on a large table and then people can come and just choose something that they would like to use.

I also gave away items like a new shower liner, makeup bags, tote bags, lamps, toys, and so much more to the Salvation Army in our neighborhood.

I love that I have all of these resources for donating items from my house.  It makes me happy to know that I am donating and giving things to other people to use and enjoy.  Meanwhile, I am cleaning out my house and organizing everything.

Have you been doing any organizing in your house?

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the rest of the week and weekend.

  1. It's always a good way to declutter especially when spring is here. There's someone who needs it too. I do the same with donating them to the church or an organization that helps with the needy. Have a good Wednesday Julie!

  6. Oh Julie I totally understand. With moving this last year and moving into a small living space I know what you mean about having to purge things that have accumulated over the years. All your treasures donated will help others. Have a great Thursday.

  7. It is a very good way to declutter. I'm a cleaning fanatic, I always clean, and usually put everything in big bags, and once or twice in the year I got to Goodwill and donate. :)

  8. I do love clearing things out and getting organized!!! I donate mostly to Big Brothers Big Sisters. They pick up when I schedule it. IT's nice to give things so others can use them. Enjoy your night!

  9. Hi Julie. I'm a decluttering/donating girl too. When I read about people who have loads and loads of stuff in their homes to get rid of, it just gives me the heebie jeebies. I like to constantly cull things out to donate. We have a wonderful place to take things here in our town so I just drive through pretty regularly.

  10. Good for you, decluttering on a continuous basis! I am truly trying but my problem is that I am constantly bringing new things in (thrifted for my Etsy shop). We are joining our local public market's garage sale where I hope to get rid a lot of clutter and things I can't sell on Etsy. It is an ongoing battle here! We have lived in our home for 22 years and my husband and I combined two homes at the time. I have to admit though that most of the stuff is mine!

  11. Well, sounds like we're both in declutter mode. I've always donated to the Vietnam Vets. Not sure how I originally found out about them. They're rated highly, as are the other vet organizations. I'm glad someone can use my stuff. It would feel so wasteful if I didn't think anyone else could use my stuff. But it sure feels good to pare down a little. Congratulations on getting all that done! xo Deborah

  12. I keep a bag in my closet of things that I donate, Julie. My church has a truck from St. Vincent de Paul that comes quarterly to pick up items. It feels good to lighten the load, doesn't it?

  13. Julie,
Last year I went through the whole house and donated tons of things. I plan on doing it again... my rule is that if I did not use it within the year, then out it goes...Thanks so much for hosting each week!!
    Hugs,
    Deb

  14. I love that you donate. It's so easy to think little things don't matter all that much, like a pair of shoes or a coat, but on the flip side, those things mean everything to those who don't have and can't afford them. We donate too.

  15. I have been organizing drawers all of April. Closets are next! We donated tons of stuff when we moved last year but I think we could stand to donate a good bit more! Less is more is going to be my new motto!
