Makeup Monday - Discontinued Makeup

February 9, 2015

Welcome to Makeup Monday on Julie's Lifestyle.  I will post about a certain type of makeup, nail polish, face or hair product etc.  It will be a fun place to come visit about anything to do with beauty.

Week 33 - Discontinued Makeup

Have you ever bought makeup and really loved it and then discovered that it's discontinued?

Well that is what happened to me last fall when I discovered this lipstick on the left called Nude Delight 642 by RIMMEL!  This lipstick was recommended by one of my Instagram buddies when she showed a photo of it and I loved it so much I had to buy it.  I fell in love with this lipstick and thought it looked great on me.  When I was almost finished and you can tell by the photo on the left, I went searching at so many stores for this same color and could not find it.

My dilemma was what am I going to do now?  Well I just went with the lipstick to the drug store and bought a similar looking lipstick color and same brand that matches.  My lovely daughter saw this new color that I bought and she too fell in love with it.  It's called Notting Hill Nude 720 by RIMMEL.

When this situation happens all you have to do is is try and match up the color with a color that looks the same or similar.  I do hope this tip was helpful.

This lipstick is a nude color and last year nudes were all the rage and I still love light colors for day time.  When I tried on the lipstick without lipliner I thought it did not look good on me, so I used lipliner.  I thought it looked much better on me that way.  Do you ever play around with your makeup?  I love doing that and it's alway good to experiment a little.

Have you ever experienced a situation with discontinued makeup?

  3. Ah yes, I have had that happen. It seems like companies like to discontinue items that are well-loved :)

    Happy Monday! Hugs!

  4. That has not happened to me because I'm not very loyal -- I always love to try new things!! But thanks for the recommendation for the Rimmel lipsticks (although I have way more lipsticks than I need right now -- lol!)

  5. When reading your post Julie it reminded me of the scene in PS I Love You when a mishap in a boat results in a discontinued lipstick or nail varnish going overboard. The screams that follow are just how I feel when I go to find a specific number or shade and it is no longer there :-)

  7. Happens to me all the time. I try to stock up on things I love, but eventually they run out. I bought a lipstick from a makeup artist that I love, and now she's out of business :(

  8. Makeup companies are constantly changing collections and colors now. So if you REALLY like something, purchase two. The only other thing is to look for it on eBay. It's usually there. So glad you found a comparable match.

  9. Been there. I still miss my favorite lipstick, a sort of magenta -- which sounds awful but looked great -- gone for at least 25 years. Of course it might not look as good with my different hair color, but it was my very favorite.

  10. Hi Julie,

Great post and tips as always. I too am a victim of many such discontinued make up items... I have just recently fallen in love with some of L'Oreal products and I am so hoping they won't discontinue... :)

    Hugs!!

  11. I often wonder why companies discontinue items that are doing well. Doesn't make sense!

  15. Yes, I was bummed that they discontinued a Lancome definition mascara. After that none of the mascara doesn't work for me:( Trying the Revlon one but too 'heavy' on my lashes. I'll keep trying.

  16. I always hate when they 'improve' a product and change it just a bit. It's never an improvement! My hubby always says buy TWO! lol Love your make up posts my friend! Hugs, Diane

  17. Oh Julie! Don't get me started on discontinued anything! E.L.F. used to carry a lip gloss called Baby Lips which I loved and I always received compliments on it. GONE!!!!!! The only way I could bye it is on their website, so before they yank it, I bought 20 of them. They were only $1.00, so it was worth it. I also loved a St. Ives Tea Tree facial soap and they discontinued that too. I liked it, because it worked great and it was cruelty free. This has nothing to do with cosmetics, but why can't Carnation Breakfast Bars come back!!!!!!!!! Those were wonderful!

  21. It's so frustrating when products I love are discontinued. Although I can usually find a similar shade it isn't always the same consistency. If I know any of my favourites are about to be discontinued I usually stock up!

  22. I love Notting Hill Nude! There's a slightly deeper nude in that Rimmel range called Camden Brown...might be worth a gander 😀 happy Monday 😀 xo

  24. I hate when a loved product is discontinued! Thankfully, in most cases there's a dupe to be found :)

  25. This happens to me ALL the time - I'm a bit of a late starter when it comes to discovering products, and I often find the loves of my life on throw-out tables, but by then it's too late! Oh well, there's plenty more in the market place, but I know how shattering it is to find THE perfect colour only to discover you have to search for it all over again in another brand ♥
