Chinese Cinderella Book

February 2, 2015

Hi friends, I do love reading books and I'd love to share with you a book that I read last year.  It's called Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah.

This book was recommended for me to read by my daughter who had to read this book for school.  I'm so glad that she suggested I read this book because I totally enjoyed it and it's a true story.

This book is a memoir of an unwanted daughter from a wealthy Chinese family taken place back in the 1940s.  This is the sad story of how she was treated by her own family after her mother dies giving birth to her.

I would recommend this book and you can read more about it HERE.  I hope I have inspired you to add this to your book reading list.

What are you reading right now?

  1. Hi, this sounds like a very interesting tale. I know the Chinese prefer male babies over females. Such a sad situation for the daughter. I am going to put this on my TBR list. Thanks for sharing it at Literacy Musing Mondays.

  15. Oooh I remember reading this ages ago! I rescued the book from the thrift store for less than a dollar and I really enjoyed the story, it did make me sad that her life was not an easy one. But you are right to recommend this book!

  16. I bet that would be a good read. I know that in those days the Chinese would dote on their boys. Fortunately for my gran, my great granddad wasn't like that. He had 18 kids with 2 wives and loved them all. He also encouraged them to go to school.

  22. I have read something like this before Julie but it was very sad and I don't like reading sad stories. I have just finished A stitch before dying which took me about a month to get through but I did enjoy it and might read more of the series, and am about to start The first in the Rose Harbour series by Debi Macomber. :)
