Makeup Monday - Neutrogena Barrier Stick Sunscreen

July 6, 2014

Welcome to Makeup Monday on Julie's Lifestyle.  Each Monday I will post about a certain type of makeup, nail polish, face or hair product etc.  It will be a fun place to come visit about anything to do with beauty.

Week 23 - Neutrogena Beach Defense Water + Sun Barrier Stick

Hi friends, and welcome to Week 23 of my Makeup Monday Series.  I hope you all had a nice 4th of July weekend.  I really enjoyed mine and today I'd like to talk about this new sunscreen I bought from Neutrogena.   I was in my yard sunbathing last week and I used this sunscreen.  What I liked about it was that it just glides on and it comes in a stick form so you don't need your hands to apply it and no mess.  It did not leave a greasy feeling and I even used it on my face.  The one thing about this sunscreen that you need to be careful of is when you are applying it that you spread it evenly.  When I applied it to my shoulders I missed a few spots and it left those areas a little red.  No don't worry I did not get a bad burn!

P.S. - Update on this sunscreen!  This past Saturday I went to the beach and I decided to give this sunscreen another try.  Guess what, it was a big mistake!  It left large red streaks on my legs and on my knees and those spots are now big red splotches.  I now have an uneven tan on my legs.  It even did the same to my face and I have a red nose, forehead and cheeks.

I thought that this sunscreen would be great for packing in your beach bag, handbag or when traveling.  I am disappointed in this sunscreen and I will not be using it anymore.  I am very fair skinned and I burn easily if I do not put on sunscreen.  I paid $10.99 for this too and I usually use this sunscreen in lotion form or spray from Neutrogena.  I was really surprised that it did not work too good.  Oh well, I do like trying new products and this is how I find out if they are good or not.

Have you tried this sunscreen yet and did you like it or have any problems with it?  What is your favorite sunscreen?

P.S. - Update on my Gel Manicure.  My gel manicure removal was not as bad as I thought it was going to be!  This is what my nails look like now.

I used Rite Aid Acetone Nail Polish Remover dip-it and put my nails in one at a time and let them soak for about 15 minutes.

I then used a scraper to remove the polish and this is what the scraper looked like:

I then clipped my nails and filed them and applied Essie millionails to my nails.

The funny thing is that my daughter and I thought that my nails look better now than they did before I had the gel manicure!

  5. Julie, I don't know if you got it at CVS or not, they take anything back. Even perfume I opened and tried and didn't like! Too bad it didn't work, hope your burn heals quickly. Haven't heard of the millionails before. Your nails look like they survived the gel nails just fine. I have been putting essie's apricot cuticle oil on my nails, I love it. Have a good week Julie.

  8. Sorry to hear about the problems you had with this sunscreen, Julie :-( I guess the idea is good (I hate messy sunscreen) but not practical for prolonged sun exposure. I hope you were able to return it. Have a good day.

  9. What a concept! At first glance I thought it was deodorant. What a convenient way to apply sunscreen!!! :)

  10. Thanks for the heads up on this product. We aren't fair skined, but we live in SoCal and I make the kids put on sunscreen when going outdoors for long periods due to the very intense sun here in the desert. Hope you feel better soon. Thanks for sharing on Merry Monday.

  11. Oh no Julie! I'm so sorry you experienced this and hope you heel quickly. A stick just doesn't seem to provide enough coverage. I always use creams, but I understand why you tried this. Convenience!!! Thanks for sharing. I will definitely avoid.

  15. When I saw the picture of the Neutrogena, I thought it was deo. I realized when reading that it's sunscreen. What a cool idea, but since it doesn't work the right way, I guess it's just that, an idea. I have sunscreen in a can (Coppertone, I think?) and it works great, you don't have to touch it, it's not greasy. But it runs out kind of fast, and I worry about a can in the heat.

  16. Bummer about that sunscreen! I do love the Neutrogena sunscreen stick for sensitive faces. I've been using that for several years and it seems to work well for us.

I've been wanting to try a gel mani for a while now, but have feared its effects on my nails. But yours look healthy, so thanks for the info.

  17. Thanks for sharing so that the rest of us who burn easily will know.
I still just use regular sunscreen lotion that I rub in... and it probably does make my skin a bit greasier and give me more blemishes, but it's better than skin cancer later.

  18. Thanks so much for sharing at the Say G'day Saturday Linky Party! I just pinned this. I normally find their products great so was disappointed to read that it damaged your skin! Hope your skin has healed now.

    Best wishes,
