A Day in New York City

Friday, June 28, 2013

How has everyone's week been so far?  This week I was in New York City in the area called Meatpacking District and I decided to take some pictures to share with you.  I love the way that this building is shaped and there are umbrella's and chairs to sit on in the street.  You can see someone sitting down in this photo.

Some of the side streets were empty and there were not a lot of people walking around as you can see.

This is a trendy and popular restaurant called CATCH and it serves Seafood.

Here is a very popular burger joint called Bill's Bar and Burger which has really good hamburgers.

Across the street it Starbuck's, which I love!

Here is Chelsea Market if you are in the area it is a must see.

Look how pretty these purple flowers look in these large pots on the sidewalk in the middle of the street.

Here is window display that I just loved and the background is a city and it is painted and made out of paper.  The belt is a tape measure.  This store is called Anthropologie and it is a store filled with so many unique items and also another must see.

Inside Chelsea Market was this window display of a sail boat and it was filled with so many shells.  It looked so summery.

We now have in the city bicycles that you can use for a certain amount of time and money.  There were so many lined up!

This is outside of a restaurant and here you can see pretty flowers hanging.  This is the end of my little tour for you of my day in the Meatpacking District.  I hope you enjoyed this tour.

Whatever you have planned for this weekend I hope you all enjoy!  I will be taking my daughter and a few of her friends to see a concert that the British Band called One Direction is having on Saturday night.  Wish me luck!

Crocheted Coasters Collection

Wednesday, June 26, 2013

Hey everyone, I have been busy this week crocheting coasters and I'm currently working on a crocheted dishcloth from the 52 weeks of dishcloths that Jill from Being Spiffy if hosting.  The pattern is pretty and it took me a while to get the stitch right but I'm glad I practiced yesterday.  Take a look at the pattern you might want to crochet it.

This is my latest collection of crocheted coaster's that I have made so far.  They are not all going to match, but they look so colorful and I am having fun crocheting them with the left over yarn from the dishcloths.

If you want to join in and crochet them you can see the pattern on the post for Crocheted Coasters, June 19, 2013.  They are a fast and easy project to make.

A Day at the Beach

Monday, June 24, 2013

Saturday we went to the beach and we all had a great time.  It was a hot sunny day and the water looked so pretty but it was too cold to go in.  We arrived early and the beach was not too crowded.  I packed sandwiches, fruit, chips and iced tea for us to enjoy.  It felt so good to sit and read magazines.

Here you can see that by the time the afternoon came it was crowded.

Now back to my yard, this is my tomato plant and you can see that one of the tomatoes is starting to turn red.  It is almost ready to be eaten.

I can't wait to cut it up and put it into a salad.

I hope you enjoyed looking at some pictures I took of the beach and hope you all have a great week with whatever you do.

4th of July Drink

Saturday, June 22, 2013

The 4th of July is less than 2 weeks away and I thought that I would share with you this fabulous drink for the 4th of July Holiday.  Doesn't it look so pretty with the layers of colors?  My daughter found out how to make this from a girl on YouTube named Bethany Moto, macbarbie 07, bethanyslife.

Ingredients:
Here are the ingredients you will need to make this drink.  Sprite Zero, Cranberry Juice and Light Blue Frost Gatorade.

Directions:
First take a large glass and fill it to the top with ice cubes and then add your Cranberry Juice.  Next add the Sprite Zero and then the Gatorade.  To make the colors really stand out I added a little bit of red food coloring and blue food coloring.

Here you have your 4th of July Drink.  If you want to add any alcohol for the grown ups, you could add vodka.  I used a Mason Jar which is all the rage right now.  Try it out and have some fun!

Crocheted Coasters Pattern

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

As many of you know I am making dishcloths for the 52 Weeks of Dishcloths.  I have a lot of yarn left over from making the dishcloths.  I don't want to keep using the same yarn for each one so I came up with the idea to make crocheted coasters with the left over yarn.

Here is a Crocheted Coaster I made out of kitchen cotton yarn.

For the yarn I used Martha Stewart cotton hemp yarn in the color Peacock.

I love the way the coaster came out and this is easy and fast to crochet.  I have an easy crocheted coaster patten to share with you.  How about making coasters for the summer?  The pattern was given to me by Maggie @BeachPlumStore who is on twitter.

Crocheted Coaster Pattern

Crochet hook - size I - 5 1/2mm
Yarn used - Martha Stewart Crafts cotton hemp
Color yarn - Peacock

sl st - slip stitch
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
hdc - half double crochet
dc - double crochet
sts - stitches

1) Chain 5, sl st to join to make circle, ch 1
2) sc 7 times in ring, ch 1
3) sc 2 times in each st, ch 2
4) hdc 2 times in each st, ch 2
5) *dc 2 in next 2 sts, dc 1 in next st* - repeat all the way around

Note:  If it is starting to get too bunched up, drop a stitch by only 1 in each st, instead of 2.  (Try and make it lay flat).

This is made in US terminology.

* These coasters can be made with any color yarn to go with the different holidays of the year!

Starting Summer

Friday, June 14, 2013

It's already the start of the weekend and I am so proud of my daughter because she has completed 7th grade today.  She has done an amazing job as a student and daughter and will be entering into 8th grade in September.  We had a pizza party today at the house with 10 of her friends and they celebrated all day.  We can now start our summer!

My daughter will be going to camp in Manhattan every day for a few weeks.  The camp that she will be attending, they will be going on field trips to museums, and have fun participating in activities such as fishing, movies, Madame Tussauds, and some community service work.  She will experience New York City!

We will be spending a lot of time in New York City during the week and I hope to take a lot of pictures  so I can share the photos with you.  I am looking forward to eating at nice restaurants, and shopping too.

Some views I took of the city.

Last summer we took an amazing trip to Zurich, Switzerland and we stayed at my husbands cousins house and we got to spend a lot of time with my husbands aunt, uncle, his cousins and their children.  Here is my daughter with her cousins.  We took a day trip to visit the mountains.

Here is my husbands aunt and uncle and they are both from Italy.

It was so amazing sightseeing in the mountains and we took a tram to the top.  We all then ate lunch when we reached the top of the mountain to rest and look at the beautiful views.

We also took a train ride to the bottom of the mountain.  Then we took a boat ride to another area to walk around and sight see.

We had coffee and dessert at a cafe in Zurich.

We took a train to Lugano and stayed there for one day and we did a lot walking around, sightseeing and we ate Italian food at nice restaurants.

We took another train to Venice and we stayed at a hotel right across the street from the train station. The hotel was called the Hotel Carlton Grand Canal.

This is the view from right outside our hotel.
We did a lot of sightseeing in Venice and we also went to the Lido a few times to relax at the beach.  Venice is so pretty and the boat rides were so much fun.

We also plan on going to the beach on our weekends since the house that we would usually rent in the Jersey Shore was damaged due to Hurricane Sandy.

Here is the beach we usually go to called Riis Park Beach which is near our house.

Whatever your plans are for the summer I hope you all enjoy whatever you do and remember to relax!  I also want to say Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful dads out there.  We plan on having a BBQ!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Tea Rose Crochet Dishcloth

Wednesday, June 12, 2013

It's already Week 11 of the 52 Weeks of Dishcloths and this dishcloth that I made is my favorite so far.  I love the way it looks and it reminds me of a doily.  It was so much fun to crochet and it only took me one day to make!

I really love this color I picked out and it is from Martha Stewart Crafts, cotton hemp in the color Sugared Violet.  I will be buying more of this yarn in the same color in the future because it's my favorite!

For the details and the pattern you can go to Being Spiffy if you want to make this dishcloth.
