Brooklyn Craft Camp

March 18, 2013

I went to Brooklyn Craft Camp on Saturday March 16, 2013, and it was hosted by Brett Bara who is the host of Knit and Crochet Now TV show and author of the book Sewing in a Straight Line.  It was a fun day of crafting and meeting new people.  The morning started off with Brett Bara introducing herself and telling us what the day was going be like and then we all had coffee and donuts from a local Greenpoint bakery called Peter Pan and the coffee was from Cafe Grumpy's featured on the HBO show called Girls.

Here is a list of what I made, a crepe paper flower taught by Kayte Terry author of the book Paper Made, I made a crocheted headband taught by Cal Patch a crochet designer, the embroidery class was taught by Jessica Marquez author of the book Stitched Gifts, and the last class of the day was knitting a cowl by Kate Clifford a knitting teacher at Argyle Yarn Shop and founder of an after-school knitting program in Harlem.

We all had a gourmet lunch which consisted of Roasted pork loin sandwich with rosemary-honey mustard, spicy mayo and arugula on brioche, Spring bean soup with chili sauce, basil oil and baby greens, Quinoa salad with beets two ways, baby frisee and lemon-muscat vinaigrette, and Candied grapefruit almond shortbread with sea salt.  While we were eating lunch we had guest speaker Jay McCarroll who was winner of Project Runway Season 1 talk to us about his background and how he became interested in fashion and being creative.

Throughout the day there was DJ Darren Fried who played nice background music for us and who is also Brett's boyfriend.

When the event was over they had a cocktail hour for everyone and snacks.  They also had a Photo Booth, Quick Craft Bar and a DIY Nail Art Bar.

It was a fun day and I enjoyed crafting, learning some new crafts, and meeting new people.
